Evening everyone, Seeing as things are a little 'quiet', I thought it may be a good time to have a type of roll call; and as we have had a number of new people subscribe to the list over the past few weeks, they may also like to take this opportunity to participate by introducing themselves and any of their family/local history research interests. I'd like to propose that we have a "Place Name" roll call for the areas covered by this list. By doing one this way, in addition to listing your family names by specific areas, subscribers could also post any 'local' history interests and/or queries that they may have as well. Perhaps there may be a particular property - church - school - pub - cemetery - business/industry - book - re-union - etc. etc. that you are interested in or haven't quite got around to asking (or reminding) others about yet ! Or perhaps it may just jog your memory about ... So we don't get a whole lot of emails at once, if we start with place names A-B-C (listed below), and depending on the interest (or lack of), I'll post the lists of different placenames every few days or so. Just have to see how it goes ? I guess. *** If I happen to miss any placenames, then by all means feel free to jump right on in when your particular placename letter/s comes up *** (and accept my apologies for the oversight). The following format may be helpful : Placename : Given & Surname/s : Date/s : (most important) Other Comments : as detailed as you like and for any local history topics and/or queries, anything goes really ! So, for starters, here's some placenames to get the ball rolling - HILLS DISTRICT : Annangrove, Arcadia, Baulkham Hills, Berrilee, Calabash, Castle Hill, Canoelands, Colah, Crosslands HAWKESBURY : (I can't think of any A's ?), Box Hill (bordering on), Blaxlands Ridge, Cattai, Clarendon, Colo, Cliftonville, Cornwallis HUNTER VALLEY : Aberglassyn, Abermain, Aberdare, Aberdeen, Adamstown, Allynbrook, Anvil Creek, Ash Island, Alderley, Ananbah, Bolwarra, Bellbird, Belltrees, Belford, Beresfield, Black Creek (Branxton), Booral, Broke, Brunkerville, Bishops Bridge, Black Hill, Cessnock, Clarencetown, Campbell's Hill, Carrington AND .... out of courtesy to ALL subscribers, "please remember" to <snip> (delete) any unneccesary portions from previous attached emails, so any replies do not get too long (and repetitive). Replies are currently sent back to the list by default - so just use your "Reply" button, or if you want to correspond with someone in private then just change the HHHV address in the "To" header prior to sending. If anyone has any books/resources on the various placenames, and would be willing to do some look-ups for others, then perhaps these could be listed as well (but that's optional). Hopefully everyone will get involved ... so now it's over to you folks :) Best of luck and good hunting ! Regards, Diane (H,H,HV List Moderator)
I Hope this is not too late for the A-B-C Roll call The Booral/Clarencetown area: Maytom (sometimes spelt Maytum) I visit the Booral area frequently so if anyone would like details of the cemetery at St.Barnabus I would be happy to do any searching for you. Hi Jenny, No, you are not too late :) So people don't have to rush, and because one never knows how frequently subscribers get to their computer, there will be a few days in between each of the placename groups, so plenty of time. Even if you happen to miss one of them, it's perfectly OK to post a 'late' entry ! Thanks for the offer re St. Barnabus .... Hello to the list, A late 'A' !! I am interested in the Adamstown area in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Families I am researching include Lambert, Wilmott, Nethersole, Mitchell and McLuckie. More details on my web page - address below. I have a booklet written for the Centenary of the Adamstown Public School in 1977.
