I am researching my BORTHWICK family. John BORTHWICK and Ann CLIFT were married at Fairfield near Windsor on 5 July 1847. The Presbyterian Church of Scotland record indicates that the Minister was Matthew ADAM of The Scots Church Windsor and that witnesses were Nathan (looks like FORRESTER?) of Cornwallis and Lionel BOWKER of Wollombi Brook. Do any listers know more about these people and places? It particularly interests me that John and Ann who both lived at Inverell chose to be married at Fairfield. I do have some other information on Fairfield, kindly sent to me by a HV lister some years ago but wondered whether anyone knows of it being used for weddings. (The Borthwicks did have some connection to the COX family, but over 10 years earlier and I haven't found any material re their lives in Australia at that time.) I'd also love to know more about the two witnesses. Any BOWKER or FORRESTER? Researchers out there? Ann Rev Mathew Adam was a native of Kilbarchan in Scotland and arrived from Greenock on the Portland in 3 December 1837. He was ordained as a minister in NSW in 1839. He worked hard to help ensure the Scots Church in Windsor was erected and I believe services first started there in 1843. Mathew taught at a private school from Mileham St around 1841, and then from Fairfield from 1845 onwards. Mathew also resided at Fairfield from 1845 until ?? I've looked through my information on Mathew and names Borthwick, Clift, Forrester, Bowker do not appear; however my information from 1845 to 1855 is rather sparse. I'd be pleased to get any available information on the school in Fairfield.
