Hi all, Does anyone have any DRINKWATERS at Windsor in their research? Edward Joseph DRINKWATER married Emma MAULSBURY in Sydney in 1873. They had at least 8 children, the first five born at Ryde, the last three born in the Windsor area - Arthur in 1883, Elsie in 1886 and Alfred J. bonr 1888 Edward died in 1892 in Windsor. Unfortunately his parents are not listed in the death index. I haven't bought his marriage certificate yet - I am trying to find out his parents' names as I am hoping he is the son of William DRINKWATER and Jane HANNON who married in Hobart in 1840. His brother William settled in Grafton. Snatching at straws, I know :-) but there's no sign of him in Tasmania or Victoria. Cheers Jan
Dear Jan, Can't help with the parents of Edward DRINKWATER, but while checking entries for the index to the Windsor & Richmond Gazette, (which is not yet published) there is an entry for Mr Drinkwater in for 7 May, 1892 on page 4 column 4 that reads... Sudden Death at Rouse Hill A man named Drinkwater died on Tuesday at Rouse Hill, near Windsor, under peculiar circumstances. Whilst eating a piece of meat one day last week some hard substance like bone scratched the throat. He felt slight pain, but took very little notice. The throat got worse, however, and Mr. Law, chemist, advised him to get medical advice, but this was of no avail, as he gradually sank and died. There are several other entries for Mrs Drinkwater, .... A concert in aid of the bereaved wife of the late Mr. Drinkwater, Rouse Hill, will be held there shortly. There is also a Return Thanks from Mrs. Drinkwater for the support given by the public for her benefit and a full description of the concert, but nothing that identifies if the Mr and Mrs Drinkwater are your group and nothing that sheds light on their Christian names let alone his parents. We just thought we would mention it anyway, just in case it leads you somewhere, maybe a check in the Parramatta newspaper of the time could be worth a look.
