Hi everyone, Just a :) reminder to <snip> those long email replies. Bill's response to a post, which I am using "just" as an example, gives a good idea of what <snipping> is all about ... (hope you don't mind Bill) ============================= Dear Don, National Records at Chester Hill should have a complete file on the Post Office at Kurrajong, from which you may get some interesting information. Sincerely, Bill Morlu wrote: > Hi everyone.... I'm new to the list. > > Interest is in Thomas Walker and wife Mary Ann Mahoney, my great ========================== Bill's reply is at the top, followed by a snipped (edited) portion of Morlu's "original" post. Like Bill has done, you only need to retain just enough of the original post/query in your reply, so that others have some idea of what the reply refers to. Delete/snip/cut out any uneccessary portions of the original post, and any of the previous messages that may be attached underneath (a thread), including any trailers (those are the Ancestry ones that Rootsweb automatically puts at the bottom of "each" and "every" message that is sent to the list). When you send a reply, one will be added ! If several people reply, and a thread begins, and nobody <snips> you end up with long messages containing a whole lot of previous posts, and a heep of these trailers at the bottom. A lot of people probably already know about <snipping>, so I don't mean (or want) to sound like a broken record :), but some people may not know and therefore do not <snip> ... but now they do :) Just a simple ask .... so we don't get toooo much repeated reading in a whole lot of long, long, and longer messages. And depending on your mail program, you can always ask it not to " include message in reply" .... but that's entirely up to you. Enjoy your weekend folks :) Diane (Admin)
