    3. In response to Diane's invitation some of the names I am researching are: BORTHWICK -- my own family in Australia commencing with William Murray Borthwick who arrived in 1833 and eventually settled at Inverell following some years in the Hunter district. I would love to trace his movements in the Hunter. All I know is that he worked for William COX of "Hobartville" for two years and for Colonel DUMARESQ for two years. Another clue is that in the 1839 Post Office directory for NSW William Murray Borthwick and his son John are listed at Murrurundi, one at a place named Maryland, which I have been unable to trace. (If it was there own place it could have been named after Maryland in Glasgow.) Murrurundi and District Historical Society has been unable to help so if anyone on the list has any ideas at all about "Maryland" Murrurundi I would be truly delighted to hear! One Borthwick son, John, married Anne CLIFT, daughter of Samuel Clift of Maitland and Breeza, and another son married Catherine Elizabeth Amelia MAYO. There are many other Hunter district marriages and connections within the family. As well as researching my own family I am doing a BORTHWICK worldwide One Name Study (registered with the Guild of One name Studies). So I am interested in any Borthwick information at all, anywhere in the world. I have posted a great deal of Borthwick data on my web site for other Borthwick researchers to share. Another side of my family, the BROUN / BROWN family had Hunter connections, originally living at "Colstoun" Upper Paterson. While the BROUNS are being researched by other family members, including Charlotte who is a member of this list, I am always interested in sharing information and hope to fully research my own line of the BROUN (in our line more commonly known as BROWN) family at some point. Best wishes to all on the list for a peaceful, happy and healthy 2003. 3. I think I said "newbies" Ann <vbg> but "oldies" (no pun intended) are also welcome (at any time) to list their research interests. Subscribers come and go all the time, so I guess it does help to post your interests on the list every now and then as there may be new connections out there somewhere. Nice to hear from you again ... 3. Hello Ann, I am pretty sure that about 20 years ago there was a sign to Maryland somewhere in the north, because my father used to point it out to me on the road to Toowoomba, we used to pass Maryland and Kentucky (nr Uralla). Can't recall where it was though. Hope this is a clue for you Robert

    3. Ann This may be an area now known as "The Marylands" and is shown on my map as Maryland, situated about 15 kms NNE of Stanthorpe just on the NSW side of the border with QLD. htth June ----- Original Message ----- From: Ann Carson <amcarson500@optusnet.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-HILLS-HAWKESBURY-HUNTER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 09, 2003 3:18 PM Subject: [H,H,HV] BORTHWICK, BROUN / BROWN and many others > In response to Diane's invitation some of the names I am researching > are: > > BORTHWICK -- my own family in Australia commencing with William Murray > Borthwick who arrived in 1833 and eventually settled at Inverell > following some years in the Hunter district.
