Hello everyone. I am still trying to research the Hughes/Ancel family of Windsor, Wallsend, Kurri Kurri, Maitland. The latest mystery surrounds Henry George Ansell marrying Annie Humphries at Maitland circa 1900. at the age of 39. Henry was born at Windsor 1861. (ref Arndell Hawkesbury Pioneer Index and NSW BDM Ref 14079) Parents George Henry Ancel and Sarah McDuff nee Graham. {This birth is tantalising as we wonder if George Henry Ancel is the son of John Ansell (or James Jones) and Margaret Battesby, and wife of Hannah Walker (married 1832), or could George and Hannah have had a son George Henry.- no births to the couple can be found.} There also seem to be two Sarah Graham's living in the Hawkesbury at the same time. One married to Thomas McKellar. It seem that the Windsor Ancells may have had two children, with Hannah at the birth of her two children William George, and Henry, also at her Marriage to Rowland Hughes, (all at Wollongong) states that she was born in Windsor circa 1841. The Hughes family left Wollongong and moved to the Hawkesubury for a few years after Hannah Ancel's husband George died. It seems that that may have lived with Hannah snr at McGraths Hill, where the Hughes family was added to. Back to Henry born 1861. Henry died on 19 July 1915 at Homebush, aged 52. Parents George Ansell, Horsetrainer, and Sarah Graham. Henry and Annie's children include: Leslie born 1902 ref 28800 at Sydney he married Matilda E Davis at Burwood in 1926 ref 3321 Edward J born 1905 at Sydney ref 19806 he married Sybil E.G.Symons 1929 at Burwood ref 1948 Charles W born 1907 at Burwood ref 33718 he married Edna L Beal at Petersham 1930 ref 2491 Now I have the Maitland Pioneer Register, and looking at the Humphreys entry it states a daughter Elizabeth Anne born 1st February 1864 at Maitland, parents - John Humphreys and Mary Greedy. I can find no marriage. I have found a marriage of Henry G Ancel to Emily Showesmith in 1884 a real mystery. Emily is supposed to have married a James Davis in Queensland in 1899. I would love to have the BDM reference. Unfortunately I can only access the QLD BDM CD to 1889. Would love to have some help. ANNE
