    3. Dear Sheelagh, PORTLAND is a little town of 2500 people 27Km from LITHGOW and 48Km from BATHURST. It was the home of Portland Cement and in recent times signs at the entry points have been erected to say that we are the town that built Sydney. The town is 925m above sea level, however to the west the Great Dividing Range rises sharply to over 1100m.
