Whist recently undertaking research into the history of Hawkesbury newspapers for a journal article, I came across some information from the "Windsor Review" a 19th century magazine which may interest to listers. Although classed as a newspaper it was more like a journal or magazine, the "Windsor Review : a monthly magazine of literature, science & art" was established in July 1857. The editor was Mr J. Kennedy, a schoolteacher and it was run in conjunction with the local Debating Society. Unfortunately only four issues were ever produced and it folded in October 1857. You may be ineterested in localting whether your ancestor subscribed to some additional culture and expanding his or hers mind!!! The following is a list of the Patrons and Subscribers published in the Windsor Review, the list is reprinted in full and unfortunately only a few christian names are included. Original copies of this are held in the State Library of NSW. Dear Michelle, You have come up trumps again!!! Thankyou!! The surname Ancel jumps out, and it could only be our George who was involved in the Literary society. Did George Ancel contribute an article to the journal? Best wishes ANNE ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michelle Nichols" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, October 08, 2006 5:00 PM Subject: [HHHV] WINDSOR REVIEW > Whist recently undertaking research into the history of Hawkesbury > newspapers for a journal article, I came across some information from the > "Windsor Review" a 19th century magazine which may interest to listers. > > Although classed as a newspaper it was more like a journal or magazine, the > "Windsor Review : a monthly magazine of literature, science & art" was > established in July 1857.
