    1. [HHHV] Edward/Edmund Markham ' Mangles' 1822. Seven Years under (UK's) Irish Insurrection Act
    2. fcm
    3. Markham was initally sent up Parramatta River and assigned to James Byrne of Airds on arrival of the 'Mangles' in Port Jackson in November 1822. I cannot be sure he actually went to Byrne, though if he did so, it was for a very brief period. He was later assigned to John McHenry J P of Evan (now Penrith) from 21 October 1824 (until T of L in 1827) and a few years beyond, to about 1830. So where in the meantime? Thirty four long years of research has finally turned him up this week - quite by chance, while searching the reel for entirely unrelated information - in SRNSW Microfilm Reel 1254 in the WINDSOR District Constable's 1824 Population Book for lists made in 1823. Alas, whereas most such Notebooks recorded name in street or farm order, enabling us to easily ascertain which "Government Servants" worked for whom, our concientious Constable in Windsor took his records home and relisted all the names neatly in alphabetical order! Damn! Are there any Windsor experts on the List who might have any knowledge of Markham's Master in that 23 month period (November 1822 to October 1824) , or where I might search, pls? Frank M.
