Of interest, The historian James Jervis writes ' The quantity of (tobacco) leaf grown in 1844 was 330,000 pounds and of this quantity Boydell had purchased about 160,000 pounds....Boydell , who was the oldest and largest manufacturer had purchased about half the crop which was to be expected to yield about 112,00 pounds of manufactured tobacco.
