Thanks Michelle I have my Green and Dorrington families at Sackville. It is depressing what little regard the Church's have for these pioneering families. If it wasn't for them would any of us be here? Hello Heather. I do not criticise the churches at all. I am an atheist, so I am not any sort of apologist for them. However, as I see it, they are generally confronted with falling memberships, thereby meaning falling income-levels; and with increasing costs for almost everything -- as the rest of us experience too (the economic downturn which seems to have given massive cost reductions in the UK, Europe, and the USA; has not given us any of that here in oz). In this situation, the churches can only rationalise the situation by selling off their only assets. As far as I know they don't generally receive any sort of government assistance; so they just have to do what the rest of us have to do: sell off whatever assets we have remaining. I guess that what I mean overall, is that I don't believe that we should interpret their selling off of churches, graveyards, etc. as any sign of lack of respect for pioneering families at all; but just responding to changed and changing economic circumstances. And taking your perspective on a different tangent, perhaps the body which should be showing that respect for pioneers on behalf of us all, might be the federal and state governments. Instead of wasting millions of dollars every time that they decide to have another enquiry on some issue or other, they might put that money to good use in the maintenance etc. of such historic repositories as old graveyards. Now there's a radical perspective for you! lol Ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "Heather ." <h_o_green@hotmail.com> It is depressing what little regard the Church's have for these pioneering families.
