His wife Margaret was charged with the murder however jury returned= a not guilty verdict and the case was dismissed. "A married woman=2C Margaret Cobcroft=2Cwas placed on trial at the Criminal= Court yesterday for=20 the murder of her husband=2CHenry Cobcroft=2C at Wilberforce=2C on March 3.= The case for the Crown was that accused and her husband kept an hotel at Wilberforce=2C four miles from Win= dsor=2C and on the date in question the husband was plucking a fowl. There was a quarrel=2C and acc= used=2C it is alleged=2C picked up a knife and stabbed her husband in the back=2C i= nflicting a wound some four and a quarter inches in depth=2C from which he succumbed = five hours afterwards. The accused made a statement to the effect that she and h= er husband had been quarrelling all night previous to the morning of March 3. = That morning she asked her husband not to have a drink with a man named Reynolds= =2C but he did. She then asked him if he intended to lend Reynolds a horse=2C a= nd this annoyed him=2C for he rushed at her with a carving knife and said=2C "= I will cut your throat if you speak of Reynolds again."Witness endeavored to get out of the kitchen. She wrenched the knife out of his hand and cut her = band in doing so. He then punched her on the arm. During the struggle the knife = must have stuck into him=2C but she did not remember it.
