Mrs Maisie Dial and other valued helpers are compiling school photographs, leaflets and newspaper cuttings for the 50 Year School Celebrations later this year. We are looking for any memorabilia from 1959 onwards, including class photos from the past. If you can offer any resources on loan, please contact the front office and suggest a date and time when you can bring in the historical items and have them scanned and returned. Please ask relatives, grandparents and have a look for these older items at home to assist us in this valuable project for display at the 50 Year Celebrations of our school later this year. Many thanks - Dawn Morris You can contact me for further information phone numbers etc.. Regards Tracie King shaneking@ozemail.com.au
Tracie, I helped organize a photographic display for Glebe Public School's 150th anniversary last year, so I'll let you know what we did to prepare for that. First stop was the State Records Office at Kingswood. I searched on their website at www.records.nsw.gov.au and got the reference for the files for the school, submitted a Pre-Order the day before my visit so that I didn't waste the first hour or so of my visit waiting for the files to be obtained, and then I started work. I took my laptop and scanner, and they are very happy for you to scan any document or photo that is in the school's file. I was fortunate that our school files contained around 100 photos, some that were extremely old and some that were only decades old. Just as important were all the administrative papers for the school going back to the 19th century, and some of these documents were very valuable to us in preparing a history of the school. So, for us, it was a visit that was well worthwhile. However, any visit to Kingswood needs to be well planned, given its distance for most people, plus the fact that it's so remote from anything in the local area (eg. Take your lunch with you). Additionally, the school helped publicise the event well in advance, seeking contributions of photos, and a good number of ex-students contributed class photos.
