    3. Hello again So there were two Macquarie Arms ...one at Pitt Town and one at Windsor. A little bit of googling brought up these three sites. All worth a read and clear up the confusion re Fleming and Fitzgerald. http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-factsheet/pitt-town--places-to-see-20081119-6apr.html http://www.hawkesburyhistory.org.au/stubbs/tunnel.html http://www.hawkesburyaustralia.com.au/information/thingsToDo_windsor.asp Cheers Rhonda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Convict Trail" <convicttrail@bigpond.com> To: <aus-nsw-hills-hawkesbury-hunter-valley@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, November 30, 2009 9:02 AM Subject: Re: [HHHV] Fleming, Macquarie Arms > > > Henry Fleming had the inn in Pitt Town, the building is still standing - > just, it was called the Blighton Arms when he had it, it changed to the > Macquarie Arms about 1828 when he moved to the Macdonald River and it was > bought by his father -in-law for his sister -in -law Mary nee Hall and her > husband William Johnston > Regards Elizabeth Roberts > > I am trying to find details of the original owner/licensee of the > Macquarie > Arms Hotel in Windsor NSW.? > > I was advised it was Henry Fleming (son of soldier Joseph Fleming).???The > Col. 3. Hi Rhonda I was surprised to find that there was a Macquarie Arms at Pitt Town, as well as Windsor. I found this out on a recent tour of Wisemans Ferry and surrounds with Blue Mountains Family History Society, last week. 3. Hi again Jan I would have loved to have been on that tour with you.....the Hawkesbury area is my passion...its where it all began for both sides of my family.....I have found some fantastic articles from the Sydney Morning Herald recently added online to the National Library beta site...its well worth going back periodically as new newspapers come online all the time...the Hawkesbury was certainly close to "the centre of the universe" back then in the early 1800s. Of particular interest to me is the "Maid of Australia Inn, a typical street corner inn located at 87 Bathurst Street" Pitt Town which I am currently researching ......as I am almost sure that it may turn out that my paternal family is closely related to an owner of this inn.
