You may be interested to know that THE NOTEBOOKS OF WILLIAM DAWES ON THE ABORIGINAL LANGUAGE OF SYDNEY was recently launched at Macquarie University and is now available online at http://www.williamdawes.org/ "These previously unpublished documents are unique and represent some of the earliest written records of Australian Indigenous language and culture. This project and launch is supported by Aboriginal Affairs NSW, the Endangered Languages Project at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and the Darug Community." This is a great site with interesting features including a story that can be listened to in both Darug and English. Another interesting feature is the Links and references at http://www.williamdawes.org/refs.html where the references/bibliography are linked to online versions. For those of you who read the "The lieutenant" by Kate Grenville, her character Daniel Rooke, a First Fleet soldier and astronomer, was inspired by the Dawes notebooks. Michelle Nichols
