Checking through the some old newspapers [Cumberland Mercury 27th July 1878] I came across the death of Harriet Hough. Harriet died on the 22nd July 1878 and was recorded as the daughter of Mrs Farlow of Yarramundi and that she died of fever. She was only 26 years old and the article revealed that she left five children to mourn her loss. Harriett Hough was buried at St Peters Church of England in Richmond. A quick check of the NSW BDMs show that Harriet was also the wife of Thomas George Hough and they had married in 1869, when she was 17. The marriage was registered in Richmond. Thomas and Harriet had a large family (7), all of the children were born in Richmond. The children were Charles A. in 1869; Thomas George 1870; Ann Florence 1872; Elizabeth 1874; Harriet 1875; Jessie 1876 and Alic Sydney 1877. Two of these children died in 1875. Harriet died on the 17 June 1875 aged 1 day and Annie died 25 August 1875 aged 3 years and 7 mths. Both were buried at St Peters Church of England Richmond. Following the death of Harriet, Thomas Hough married Elizabeth Rollings of Lambton in 1879. They had a further 6 children including Mary 1880; James William 1881; Joseph 1883; Violet A. 1884; Emmeline 1886 and Herbert 1889 all registered at Lambton. Sadly three of these children died as babies or infants. Emmeline died 1886, Violet 1885 and Joseph 1896. Thomas Hough was recorded in the church register as a "Publican" I am not related to this family but I thought it may be of interest to others. Michelle Nichols
