In the Windsor Presbyterian cemetery stands a headstone for John Thomas NEILSON who died in 1877 apparently the son of John and Mary Neilson. Whilst browsing for some information in a local newspaper, I came across some interesting information which may be of interest to descendants of this family and the HHHV list. According to the Hawkesbury Chronicle dated 9 September 1882, John Thomas Neilson was re-interred at the Windsor Presbyterian cemetery. He had apparently died on the 23 December 1877 at Mr Maguire's Bearbong Station at Dubbo after a short illness lasting 5 weeks. His death is registered on the NSW BDM index no. 4818/1877 and registered at Coomabarabran. According to the article, John Thomas Neilson was a chemist and expert in medicine. It also seems he was lawyer and was very knowledgeable on land laws. His elderly mother wanted her son's body moved to Windsor (his boyhood home) hence the e-interment. Rev. P. Fitizgerald a family friend conducted a service at the grave for selected family and a few personal friends. His remains were in a cedar coffin with a plate attached, which stated "John Thomas Neilson, died 23rd December 1877, aged 49" His headstone states he was 42 years. The transcription on his headstone reads: "In Remembrance of JOHN THOMAS NEILSON, DIED 23RD DECEMBER 1877, AGED 42 YEARS" Other family members buried with him : "Also In Loving Memory Of MARY NEILSON, WIFE OF JOHN NEILSON M.D. WHO DIED 20TH OCTOBER 1899 IN HER 83RD YEAR. Also ALEXANDER BRODIE NEILSON WHO DIED 30TH DECEMBER 1892, AGED 52 YEARS" For images see Hawkesbury on the Net Cemetery Register http://www.hawkesbury.net.au/cemetery/windsor_presbyterian/wwpc101.html Cheers Michelle nichols
