My wife's ancestor Mary Ann OXLEY gave birth to a son, Albert OXLEY on May 4 1850 at Richmond. The birth certificate names Wlliam CORNWELL as the father. Mary then married Alfred Baker in 1853 and Albert was raised as Albert Baker. His marriage certificate lists no parents and his death certificate names Mary and Alfred Baker as his parents. A nurse at Mudgee Hospital was the informant. Mary Ann OXLEYS parents were in Richmond from about 1840 to the early 1850s. Mary Ann's mother, Eliza, ran the Wesleyan school in Richmond for a time and Mary Ann did help her mother there. In 30 years of family history we have always felt that we would never break the brick wall of William Cornwell with any surety. We are now lead to believe that William Cornwell, father of Albert OXLEY is the same person who married Mary HOUGH in 1850 and died in Kelso in 1906. Dos anyone in the extensive CORNWELL, HOUGH, EATON, EATHER, TIPPING, ONUS etc researchers know of any other William CORNWELL - CORNWALL in the RICHMOND area in 1849/50 My wife and I plan on having a couple of days in and around Richmond sometime quite soon after having passed through many times each year but not checking its history. Besides St Peters does any lister have any suggestions as to places to visit. Which libraries in the area hold good local studies resources? Regards David & Sandra Central Coast NSW

Hi Sandra and David Hawkesbury Library at Windsor has excellent local studies and family history resources. There is an information centre on Windsor St ( which runs between Richmond and Windsor opp RAAF base). There is a large number interesting sites in Richmond, Windsor and the surrounding area.
