    3. Further to Bill's posting regarding the death of William Wood 1886. Rev William Wood was the rector at St. James Anglican Church at Pitt Town 1869-1886. As mentioned he died 24th February 1886 and is buried in the St James Churchyard at Pitt Town. The verse on headstone reads: "A vigorous preacher and a homely wit" His wife, Mary Wood is buried in the same plot, she died the previous year on the 31st October 1885. You can see a picture of the headstone at http://www.hawkesbury.net.au/cemetery/pitt_town_st_james/ptsjc003.html Cheers Michelle Nichols ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > Date: Mon, 5 Oct 2009 22:40:11 +1100 > From: "Bill" <oldboybill@westnet.com.au> > Subject: [HHHV] Correction to Rev WOOD death Rev W WOOD died on 24 Feb 1886, not as posted.

    3. Hi Keith Just so your records are correct, Darby and Timothy were tried in Tipperary on the 7 April 1827 for abduction and not tried in Cork. My records also state that Darby received a Conditional Pardon on 1 July 1842 and Timothy on 1 February 1843. The Conditional Pardons do state that both men were from Tipperary as does the Indent for the transport. You are probably aware that both received a Life sentence and not a 7 year one as stated in the 1828 NSW Census. Neither men applied to marry whilst serving their sentence Regards Lesley Uebel mailto:ckennedy@bigpond.net.au CLAIM A CONVICT http://www.claimaconvict.net/index.html -----Original Message----- From: aus-nsw-hills-hawkesbury-hunter-valley-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:aus-nsw-hills-hawkesbury-hunter-valley-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Victor & Keith Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 2009 1:44 PM To: AUS-NSW-HILLS-HAWKESBURY-HUNTER-VALLEY@rootsweb.com Subject: [HHHV] Darby & Timothy Ryan Convicts This is my first posting to the list. 3. Dear Lesley Uebel, You advised me some weeks ago [22/7/09] that Mary Henley per Lucy Davidson had made a convict application to marry James Taylor per Roslyn Castle which was refused. I have recently been able to view this record at SR. As you know this information is held in the 'Refused' index and is dated 20/9/1843. I was unable to find the original application to the Col Sec. I have reason to need to know the date that the application was first made; do you know if this record still exists? I am very grateful for your help, Stephanie.

    1. Re: [HHHV] Windsor Glebe
    2. Michelle Nichols
    3. Glebe relates to land belonging to the church, and was used to support the church by way of rents & leases etc. In your case it was owned by the Church of England in Windsor although the land was situated in Wilberforce. A new parish was established in 1825 which covered the Pitt Town, Wilberforce and Sackville areas and services were then held on a more regular basis in these areas. There is an article in the Sydney Gazette 6 Feb 1828 p. 4 - regarding the sale of some glebe lands, including Windsor - you can access on the Historic Australian Newspapers website at http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home Try and access an early map of Wilberforce and then identify the names mentioned. It will probably be close to the Church/Cemetery and Common. I checked the parish maps which are online at http://www.lands.nsw.gov.au/survey_maps/maps_and_imagery/parish_maps but they do not have a town map scanned, you can check the parish map and see if that may help. The Index to Col Sec records which you have your original reference may have information under WILBERFORCE. There are also some records held by State Records regarding the Church of England and they relate to the establishment of particular church and schools. You would have to search their catalogue to obtain the correct series, and these are records that you will have to access at State Records, Kingswood. They may assist. BTW if you have access to the book "Early Days of Windsor" by James Steele, there is map in the back dated 1835. It shows the area around the St. Matthew's Church of England Rectory and it is called "Glebe House and lands". 3. Hello Keith. Here is a link to the results of a google search asking what are glebe lands in general; and not specifically the Windsor Glebe; just in case that might help you too. http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&source=hp&fkt=2469&fsdt=8344&q=what+are+%22glebe+lands%22&meta=&aq=f&oq=&aqi= Whilst each will be informative, the fourth 'hit' from the top is specifically relating to Australian legislation in 1865. 3. Hi Kelly and Mark I know of two connections with the descendants of Rachel EATHER/John NORRIS - their daughter Rachael NORRIS married John COLBRAN. Their son, Thomas Henry COLBRAN married William Charles BAILEY who is a descendant of William BAKER (convict 1790 Neptune) and his life spouse, Mary Ann Raycroft - through their daughter Mary. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WilliamBaker-Neptune1790/ William Charles BAILEY was also a double descendant of Ann SMITH (sister of Joseph SMITH) - from two of her spouses - Thomas BAILEY and George TAYLOR - yep, Ann's grandchildren, Jane Cleaver and William BAILEY married. I have a lot of information on these two families. 1. [HHHV] Hello :)
    2. Kelly & Mark Bagdon
    3. Hello J There is a few families I am interested in the Hawkesbury; probably have a few in common with other listers. Firstly, the Eather and Norris families. They are quite large families; my interest is through the marriage of Rachel Eather to John Norris. Their daughter Susannah, who married Isaac Cook, is another research interest of mine. Also the Halls, Cooks, and connected families of the region. Another interest of mine lies in the Pittman/Sunderland families. **I have noticed that many researchers have published that John Pittman (son of John Matthew Pittman & Mary Sunderland) was married to Margaret McGarrett. This is incorrect. There WAS a John Pittman married to a Margaret McGarrett, and they had many children. However this is not John, son of John Matthew and Mary Pittman. John Pittman, son of J.M & Mary Pittman ('my' John) was actually involved with Margaret Jane VOYSEY. I say 'involved', because although they claim to have been married on their daughter's birth certificate, and later, on John's death certificate, I have yet to find any record of this. On their daughter Hannah Pittman's birth certificate in 1856, they clearly state the father as JOHN PITTMAN, and the mother as Margaret Jane formerly VOYSEY. John died the following year and on his death certificate, his parents' names appear as John Matthew Pittman & Mary formely Sunderland; and his wife appears as Margaret Pittman formerly Voysey. The other John & Margaret keep having children for many years after this; obviously this would have been impossible for John, son of John Matthew, as he was dead. I would love to hear from any Pittman or other family researchers.
