    2. Ray
    3. Thanks again Patricia. This entry below would appear to be the death of the father of aussie poet and author: Charles HARPUR. Here is Charles HARPUR's entry in the ADB online; which refers to his father, and to that father's death in 1842: http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A010472b.htm I was not aware of the connection with the Macarthur family. That is VERY interesting to discover. Thanks yet again. Regards: Ray ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patricia" <adsl4805@tsn.cc> ... 15 November 1842 - At the residence of his son-in-law, New York Hotel, on Friday, the 10th instant, Mr. Joseph Harpur, aged seventy-three years, he was for many years Head School Master of the Government School at Windsor, and for five years Principal Superintendent of the late - McArthur, Esq., during that gentleman's absence from the colony, at the time of Governor Bligh's arrest, the onerous duties of which he discharged with credit to himself, and satisfaction to his employer ; he was loved and respected by all who knew him, and has left a large family to deplore the loss of a kind friend and affectionate father.

    3. Good Morning List, One of the back indexing team has been gathering information to index into www.ryersonindex.org and in her submission I found this notice which may interest a lister. I found the wording so different to what we see in current notices I thought I would transcribe it in full. From the Sydney Morning Herald of 17 April, 1843 DEATH. On Monday morning, the 10th instant, after a short, but severe illness, Mr William Shields, Chief Constable of Murrurundi, in the 34th year of his age, much and deeply regretted by his circle of friends. Very little funeral information appears to have been published in those times. I have managed to snag invitations for another four Australian genealogists. Having done so I have set up a public wave for us but...we are lonely. To fully explore the potential of this tool for genealogy we need more participants. I am seeking other Aussie genealogists with access to Google Wave to join us on our journey of discovery. 1. [HHHV] DARBY RYAN Windsor
    2. Victor & Keith
    3. I am wondering if anyone on this list can look at the Hawkwsbury Pioneers for any entries for Darby Ryan. I now have his death certificate and he died 12th June 1880 buried RC cemetery Windsor and was of Mulgrave and a farmer. He married Susannah Davis/Davison 1869 Windsor and on his death she states that there were 7 females living and 1 female & 1 male deceased. It would appear that the children were bpt between 1843 and 1850 and 2 registered 1857 & 1859. Cant't find all of them or any marriages in Windsor area for them either. Known children are: Jane 1843; Bridget 1844; Jane 1847; Mary 1847 died 1865 Windsor; Ellen 1850; Female 1857 Windsor; Margaret 1859 Windsor. Susannah gave the info on the certificate but didn't name the children. Susannah remarried in 1881 to Thomas AKINS and she died 1890 McGrath's Hill bur RC Windsor. Darby is listed in the 1872 Greville's Directory as Farmer, Portland Head, Ebenezer. He was a convict and came to NSW in 1827 on the "Eliza 11 (1)" and went to Portland Head as per 1828 census. I would like to make contact with descendants. I am from Timothy Ryan brother of Darby who was also sent to NSW on the same ship and he settled in Warkworth NSW after serving his time in the Pitt Town district. Any help much appreciated. 3. Re William Wiseman Late Master of Brig Industry Back in the late 1970s pre the BDM indexes I transcribed a number BDM's entries from many of the Hawkesbury church registers. One of my cards reads Wiseman, William late mater of brig Industry and a NZ woman Sophia Petty baptized 30/9/1832 St Albans. One of the church registers I searched was the flood damaged register from St Albans that was then in the archives at the library of University of Newcastle and this would have been a baptism entry of a female Sophia with her parents listed as William Wiseman and a NZ woman.
