Dear Rhonda, Thanks for those links. The news item I saw, and only partially read seemed to be dealing with the management Board dissolving. According to these items the scheme continued, so I might find another one where a new board was formed. Good evening list, Has any lister any knowledge of the Pitt Town Labour Settlement? It appears to have been set up by the Minister for Lands, and a newspaper article I found while gathering information to index into www.ryersonindex.org indicates that it folded in November, 1894. Hi Bill I have transcribed the Indents although not every convict who arrived here is mentioned on the Indents. What I was trying to get across to you was that NOT every convict is listed on my **web site**. The purpose of those pages on my web site is for those researching the same convicts to be able to contact each other directly. My CD "The Port Jackson Convicts Anthology" lists the convicts who arrived. Hi again Jan I would have loved to have been on that tour with you.....the Hawkesbury area is my passion...its where it all began for both sides of my family.....I have found some fantastic articles from the Sydney Morning Herald recently added online to the National Library beta site...its well worth going back periodically as new newspapers come online all the time...the Hawkesbury was certainly close to "the centre of the universe" back then in the early 1800s. Of particular interest to me is the "Maid of Australia Inn, a typical street corner inn located at 87 Bathurst Street" Pitt Town which I am currently researching ......as I am almost sure that it may turn out that my paternal family is closely related to an owner of this inn. Allan Murphy allanmurphy47@bigpond.com My Grand parents, Lyall and Isabella Nash, lived at Bishops Bridge near Maitland up to the mid 1960s. In the late 1950s when I visited the house for the first time I was told that the house they were living in use to be a "wine shop" and it had a cellar beneath the lounge room. So I do not know if this is you're The Rook Inn. It the early 1960s, this house was replaced by a three bedroom house. It was in (or near) Bishops Bridge. I'd also be interested in more info on Bishops Bridge. Most descendants would be aware Terence had two families, one with first wife Mary Moylan and one with second wife Margaret Hogan. Hi Kelly I found the Application to Marry in my files. About 8 years I transcribed these records. The application was initially rejected and the reason given was "Not allowed until further particulars are furnished respecting Smith as there are 2 of them by the Indefatigable holding a TOL" You will be able to find a copy of the original documents as part of the ARC Records held by the State Records of NSW on microfiche. In regards to the enquiry about the Rook Inn owned by Terence O'Brien, I would suggest theat you check out the excellent State Records finding Aids about the major sources held by State Records that relate to publicans licenses. http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/guides-and-finding-aids/archives-in-brief/archives-in-brief-61 Other useful sources are newspapers (located at the public library concentrating on the Bishops Bridge area, National Library of AUstralia or the State Library of NSW) You could also try http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home The NSW Government Gazettes also published licenses. (GG is held by the StAte Library of NSW and now available on CD-ROM through local libraries and research centres) You can also access via the World Vital Listings (Australia site) at http://www.worldvitalrecords.com.au/ where you can currently get a free trial. Henry Fleming had the inn in Pitt Town, the building is still standing - just, it was called the Blighton Arms when he had it, it changed to the Macquarie Arms about 1828 when he moved to the Macdonald River and it was bought by his father -in-law for his sister -in -law Mary nee Hall and her husband William Johnston Regards Elizabeth Roberts I am trying to find details of the original owner/licensee of the Macquarie Arms Hotel in Windsor NSW.?
