I am looking for Thomas Lewis shoemaker and groom from the Camden 1831? I believe he was assigned to Maitland and is recorded in the 1937 muster. I am not sure how to find out to whom he was assigned. Hope you or someone else on the list may be able to help. Dear Isabelle, Dont know about the assignment for Thomas Lewis, but in the index to the Hunter River Gazette newspaper (1841-1842) that we indexed there is the following entry that may be of interest... Lewis Thomas Constable - Charged William Meyer with his assault s at Morpeth We know you said that your Thomas Lewis was a shoemaker but thought we would mention the above just in case. Wendys first convict , Daniel Cubitt, was also a shoemaker and changed jobs to Master of the Row Guard, so perhaps your Thomas may have changed professions - a long shot, but worth a mention, Isabelle. Dear Diane, Thankyou for that information. Will print out and write to her, thanks again...Lesley
Hi Lesley, The HV Directory : 1841 was compiled and edited by Elizabeth Guilford in 1987, as a Bicentenary project. Limited edition of 500 copies. Lists some 10,000 inhabitants (adults) who were identified as living in the Hunter Valley in 1841 (also in 1840 & 1842). The listing was compiled from various primary sources, such as the Census, Publicans Licenses, Parish Registers, Convict Applications to Marry, Returns of the Colony, Ticket of Leave Butts, Shipping Indents, Government Gazettes and various Newspapers. ISBN : 0 7316 1589 1 You may ? still be able to purchase a copy from the author : Elizabeth Guilford, 239 Maitland Road, Mayfield. NSW. 2304. Elizabeth also produced the "Journal of Hunter Valley History" (four volumes, 1985-1988). How does one answer problems like this and stay calm and reasonable to fellow researchers ? From all the millions of words spoken and text written over the past few years on virus problems one must say that messages like this are screamingly, obviously SUSPECT. The question is..do you have updated antiviral software in place..if not, WHY NOT? Secondly, don't open ANYTHING suspect under any circumstances. Doubt everything. Even your best friends could unknowingly send you corrupted mail and attachments. Again, quell your curiosity..And again, repeated by thousands of others for the umpteenth time... DO NOT OPEN THEM. Morning all, If anyone wishes to discuss the above topic, can they please do so "off list" ... otherwise we may get a whole lot of like messages/threads which aren't really appropriate for the list. If you have an AV program installed and keep it updated on a regular basis, you should be right. If you haven't got one, then the best suggestion is to get one ! Regards, Diane HHHV List Admin
Dear Michelle, If it is the CD that I think it is, I should be able to access it for you. I live in Victoria and the Genealogical Society to which I belong has it in their collection. I'll get back to you on Friday afternoon. Eusebeia Sutherland South Melbourne

Hi all It has been brought to my attention that the Website where I have this Index is down at the moment, this is because it is a free Website (all I can afford at the moment for this project!!) and if it receives too many hits at once it shuts down for an hour. I apologise to those that may have been trying to access the Index. I have pasted below the list of ALL the names on the headstones from two of the Cemeteries in the Index (which is more than what is on the Website at the moment anyway as I have not yet finished the Jerry's Plains New Cemetery as yet). I will sne the list of names for the other Cemetery separately as the message was too big to send all three at once. As I mentioned previously, the Index is of the Photos give to me of these Cemeteries. I was told the Cemeteries were photographed in their entirity, but it appears that some headstones have been missed, so I apologise if the Headstone Photo you want is not on the List. What is in the Index is all I have photos of. If you find a name below that interests you, let me know and I can check dates etc for you to pinpoint if it is the photo you want. Sorry again for the hassle, I didn't think the Website would throw a wobbly so soon!!! Thank you to the HHHV for the prompt response to my query about the Victorian Marine BDMs. I was fortunate that the death was listed, which was unexpected. In the past I have not had much luck with this line. Michelle _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp.
Does anyone on the list have access to the "Marine Births, Deaths & marriages" put out by the Dept of Justice (Victoria) The indexes cover BDMs on board coastal & international ships bound for Victoria between 1853-1920. A member of one of my families, died on the way from Ireland in the 1880s. The ship did stop at Adelaide & Melbourne before arriving in Sydney. I have a letter from the ship's surgeon who stated she was buried at sea, her name was Jane Allen BELSHAW and she was only a few months old. If anyone can assist, please contact me offline. They lived in Sydney from the 1880s-1940s then moved to the Hawkesbury.
