Glynnis, Any reference like this with a V prefix refers to a Volume of the original old Parish (Church) registers. In this case it would be a BURIAL record for 1848, (deaths were only recorded after the start of compulsory civil registration in 1856). If you have access to a library with a family history section then you should be able to read this entry for yourself as microfilms have been made of most of these pre 1856 church records. Such an entry will give you the church place, name of minister, deceased's name, occupation and usual abode. The V1848 and the end 1848 in your reference number both mean the same - ie. the year 1848. The 33B refers to the actual film number. and the 1005 refers to the number of the entry. Let me know if you do not have access to such a library and I will look it up for you when next at my nearest such library. Best wishes, Jeannine. ----- Original Message ----- From: "scott" <sunchase@iprimus.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-HILLS-HAWKESBURY-HUNTER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 01, 2002 8:40 PM Subject: [H,H,HV] Parish birth record numbers > Could sks enlighten me on where the death of a person would have been registered if the Parish Registration Number is V18481005 33B/1848? > Many thanks in advance > Glynis Wheeler > > > > Glynis R Wheeler > ICQ: 125864276 > sunchase@iprimus.com.au >
Hello Glynis It looks like you obtained your reference from the BDM Online index, V18481005 33B/1848. If you look at the microfiche or the entry on the CD-ROM, there will be a 2 letter reference code which will tell you which church, parish or district the burial occurred. The two letters are searchable from the index which is located at the beginning of the microfiche folder or http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/page7.html or http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ifhaa/ifhaa/misc/churchcod.htm Regards Alan Alan.Eade@bigpond.com Alan Eade

Dear Sandra, I do have some death certificates which state that Thomas Dixon was the undertaker: his name also appears in the Sydney Morning Herald in the 'Death' and 'Funeral Notices' as the undertaker. I also have death certificates with the name 'W.J. Dixon': do you want copies of these also? If you give me your address, I'll mail you copies of the death certificates that I have. At times people request information about the EARLY CHURCH REFERENCE CODES that are used on the NSW Pioneers index 1788-1888. Lesley Ubel's very useful web page at http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/ has a full list of the reference codes at http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts/page7.html This is useful if people are using the NSW Registry of BDM Indexes online located at http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/cgi-bin/Index/IndexSrch.cgi Michelle Nichols _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com
