    1. [H,H,HV] family search
    2. Lorna Clauson
    3. Hello everyone, I'm Lorna Clauson, (retired Commerce Teacher) NZ, but half Australian as my dad was born in Dubbo. (Hope that helps!) I'm trying to find the man who married my grandmother in NZ in 1878 - I'm descended from her second marriage. Their marriage certificate gives his place of birth as Edinburgh, and at age 25 would have been born c1853. No birth certificate has been found. Not long after their daughter was born he deserted wife and child and went to Australia, never to be seen or heard of again. No trace of his name has been found on shipping records so he probably travelled under an assumed name. However we recently discovered the following. He seems to have used any of the following names: Henry Mordaunt Cramond, Mordaunt Cramond Gunn, or Mordaunt Cramond Booth Gunn. According to a marriage certificate from NSW a person of the latter name married Miney Booth in Newcastle in May 1881. Booth-Gunn's occupation was listed as "surgeon" on this Marriage Cert. I should be most grateful for any information on this person as none of his family in NZ can find any trace of him. Thanks a lot.

    3. Dear Listers, As if I haven't got enough to do with my time I have decided to try and gather names of people who were buried by my gggrandfather and his sons, and grandsons, mentioned above. Please also forgive the cross postings The firm started abt 1850 at South Head Rd, then Oxford Street and also Newtown, and continued in the family until 1975. It is still an operating company but is now owned by an American firm of undertakers. Some years ago I attempted to find some records for the firm but were told that they had all been taken to the tip when new management took over. If you have anyone buried by my family I would love to hear from you and hopefully I can build up a database which would be available to all. Some burials would have been performed by my Dad's grndfather Henry and also by his gtuncle William who died in 1900. Please contact me if you can help, either by sending photocopies to me, by scanning or by emailing me data. Many thanks in advance Sandra Armstrong in Maryborough Qld ( nee Dixon)

    2. P. Kemp
    3. Hi Listers! I was wondering if anyone, in the course of their family history research, has come across material (published or unpublished) relating to the experiences of children growing up in Newcastle district during the war years, 1914-18. By "children" I mean from the very young up to the (mid) teens. The kind of information I'm looking for could include diaries/journals, manuscripts (memoirs, reminiscences), school magazines, photographs, oral histories, ect. In other words, absolutely anything which may shed some light upon children and their "homefront" experiences. Thank you, Sephi Kemp :o) pkemp@kooee.com.au

    1. [H,H,HV] Sweeney connections
    2. anne marie mobbs
    3. Hello Listers, I have done some extra sleuthing since speaking to you all. I have found a Thomas Sweeney marrying Bridget Mooney in 1872 at East Maitland. The witnesses to the wedding were: Cornelius Egan and Margaret Sweeny. They were married in East Maitland church. Does anyone know of these two persons. It is very co-incidental that both Egan and Sweeny are mentioned together. The Egans were cousins to my ggg grandmother Mary Gillespie, her 1st Cousin Ann Gillespie married Brien/Bryan Egan "Norfolk" 3. I have checked their few children, of which we know there is another son unnamed or found. I tried to find the birth to Cornelius but no luck. Ann and Bryan/Brien married in 1843. Ann arrived on the "Southworth" in 1832. Mary Gillespie and partner Thomas Sweeney's confirmed children are: Bridget born 1834 Mary born circa 1836 Catherine born circa 1838 John and Patrick born 1841 Mary Gillespie/Sweeney's death certificate states that she had 7 children, 2 females deceased. I think Catherine may have been one of those children (death still not found - Married John Jackson in 1856, child Susannah born in 1862, another Mary Ann born in 1857, family lost after Susanna'hs birth). Thomas and Bridget Sweeney move to Murrurundi, and have : Margaret born 1874 reg 15010 Bridget born 1876 reg 15799 Patrick born 1879 reg 18239 The family move to Gunnedah Rosanna born 1882 Elizabeth Esther born 1884 Even though Bridget is the mothers name, it also relates to a sibling if Thomas is part of the family. Also Patrick is another sibling's name. Bridget Sweeney/Freel called her eldest child Esther Jane Mary and her 2nd partner William Jones moved to Gunnedah, also brother John just before he died in 1883. I tried to find the death of Cornelius Egan prior to 1889, and Margaret Sweeney/y if she is the 2nd female deceased prior to her mothers death. Is there anyone out there who has information which may confirm these connections, or be connected to Bridget Mooney and Thomas Sweeney. If they are part of the family, then I have found all 7 children. Looking forward to hearing from you. ANNE
