Anne I can not help you with the JACKSON family, however I am interested in Thomas HALL, if you have any information about him. <snip John Jackson arrived on the "Burrell" as a convict. He married Susannah Hall, daughter of Thomas Hall "Ocean" and Mary Ann Brooks, free "Mary Ann". snip> My g g grandparents Henry and Sarah BLANDFORD lived at Narrowgut in the 1860's Their first child born 1863 was named Edward Thomas Hall BLANDFORD. When Sarah BLANDFORD's mother Jane RODFORD died in 1870 one of the witnesses was, as stated on the death certificate, "Thos Hall". Henry BLANDFORD's occupation was a farmer while he was living at Narrowgut, I don't know if there is a connection there? Hello Ray, I don't know if we are related, but being married at West Maitland is a good start. What was the age of your Neal Sweeney when he married? Who were the witnesses to the marriage? How many children did he have, and who were the sponsors to the baptisms? Do you have his death certificate? and were his parents listed on it? My ancestors were Thomas Sweeney and Mary Gillespie( no marriage as Thomas had wife in Ireland. He blotted his copy book with a colonial crime and lost the indulgence of wife and family coming to the colony at the governments expense). They lived at Black Creek (now Branxton) and 3 of their children baptised at West Maitland. On Mary's death certificate it states that there were 7 children I have found the following: Bridget born 1834 (my gg grandmother), Mary born circa 1836, Catherine born circa 1838, John and Patrick born 1841. Bridget Married 1. James Freel Their children were: Esther Jane; John Neal, Isabella (John Neal could have been named after 2 brothers!) Isabella was my g grandmother Bridget's 2nd husband was William Raisbeck. Mary Jnr married William Wallace in 1850, then partnered William Jones Jnr. Catherine married John Jackson jnr in 1856 John never married Patrick moved to Queensland and married Mary Ann Scanlan nee O'Brien (born Wollombi) It would be great if your Neal was the 6th sibling. I have copied my cousins in to our discussion. They would be very excited to learn of a connection as we have been searching since 1974 to find the family. Looking forward to hearing from you. Re Christ Church St Laurence, thought the following may be of interest.. Best wishes. Rod & Wendy Gow >From book - Saga of Sydney - by Frank Clune, printed 1962... ....(on) the Crown land map of 1842, with a frontage on George Street, (is) St Laurence New Church, opposite the Old Black Swan Inn. That church still stands today, and is know as Christ Church St Laurence. It was built in 1836-42 on the initiative of Bishop Broughton, who formed a new parish (the third in Sydney) at this end of Sydney in 1836. The fine tower of Christ Church St Laurence was added by architect Edmund Blacket in 1856.
Cumberland county covers the Sydney basin also called Cumberland Plains. Cumberland covers from the Hawkesbury River to Cordeaux River including Sydney, Parramatta, Penrith and Windsor. Northumberland covers from the Hawkesbury to the Hunter and includes Newcastle, Maitland, Singleton and Coalfields. Regards Alan Alan.Eade@bigpond.com Alan Eade
Dear Lesley, State Records at KINGSWOOD hold cards for State Rail employees, but like all records, some did "not survive". If you can get a card it will tell you name, date of birth, when he started work with the railway and details of any transfers, involvement in strikes etc. I haven't one for a fettler, but recently looked at one where the person was said to have been fireman to Ben Chifley, but his rail employment records show he was a labourer in the Bathurst workshop. Well worth a look. A day at KINGSWOOD is always a good day, but remember to take lunch as there are no shops nearby. Sincerely, Bill Wilahu wrote: > Hello Listers, > > Before I go off on a wild goose chase, have any listers needed to track ancestors who
Hello Lesley The State Records Office at Kingswood has many records relation to railway records http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/ click on "What's in the State Archives", then "Search the Concise Guide", click "P to T", scroll down to RAILWAYS. The State Records Office at 2 Globe St, The Rocks, has copies of the Supplement to the New South Wales Government Gazette, from 1891-1911, which records all employees of NSW State Railways in 3 yearly intervals. They record location/line of employment, job title and wage. Regards Alan Alan.Eade@bigpond.com Alan Eade
Hi, I had relatives married in this Church in 1853 so it was built as early as that. There is now (and I think it is old enough to have been there in 1843) a Church called Christ Church St Lawrence adjacent to Central Railway. It has frontages to both Pitt & George Sts but I think its address would be Pitt St. It is between Rawson Place and Railway Square. Hello Listers, Before I go off on a wild goose chase, have any listers needed to track ancestors who were Fettlers? On one record, my g.grandfather listed his occupation as a Fettler. Dear Terri, I think you will find that Christ Church St Lawrence is actually in the city, but I will stand corrected as I am not positive. County of Cumberland covers what was probably the inner city area, and County Northumberland the rest of the state I think also. Sincerely, Bill. Hi Terri, It's possible that it refers to St Lawrence, Sydney. http://www.ccsl.zipworld.com.au/ County Cumberland includes large parts of the greater Sydney region.
