This may be related to incorrect information, so I thought I would see if anyone on the list could assist. Has anyone heard of a home for children in the Strathfield,Sydney? This home would have existed in the early 1900's. Was it named Halloween or Dalwood? Was there a childrens home in the inner west? 3. Henry Bowerman owned a large estate at Carlingford in the 1820s. It was called Marion. He died in 1839, leaving a wife and young family. There may be a connection. Details with some source suggestions are in our book - Kass, Liston & McClymont, Parramatta a Past Revealed, p.173 (available from Parramatta library). Sherwood is the modern area of Holroyd (Merrylands-Prospect vicinity). 3. Dear Carolyn, I have delved back into the family tree of Gary Standen who is also a Hall descendant. His family tree states that John born 14.1.1842 to parents John Hall and Sarah Farding married Bridget Sweeney in 1868 at Patrick Plains. I have that transcription for reference No 3160. Parents not listed for either John or Bridget, both living at Singleton. Witnesses Thomas and Margaret Rodgers. married 30.12.1868. Gary states that John died on 25.1.1916, and was buried on 26.1.1916. He does not give references although he did for the marriage. I have found ref no 13885. John Hall died 1916, son of John and Sarah at Singleton. Ref No 17053 Bridget Hall, died 1917 at Inverell, Father Sweeney, aged 80 years. Hope this is of help to you. Have you had any discoveries lately? 3. No Anne Marie - I have not found the death for John Hall. There seems to be so many of them and as it is not my direct line I have put it aside for the time being, but I would love to clear it all up. I think the date of 1916 that I had belongs to John Hall's (b 1819) son who was born 1842 (and married?? Briget Sweeny). What do you have as there death dates??? 1. [H,H,HV] Ray re Hawkins
    2. Lesley
    3. Hi Ray In reply to you inquiry, what I have found out so far. Edwin John Hawkins- born Sept. 1853 in Portsea UK.( I found the listing with ref number to apply for certificate) He died 12-7-1925 and is buried at Sandgate Cemetery with Emma, who died 15-8-1923. His parents were Edwin J Hawkins (Quarter Master in the Navy) and Maria Eales married 1-10-1848 at St. Mary's Portsea (www.familysearch.org). Apparently Portsmouth and Portsea and next to each other or there was a name change. It has not been easy tracking down Emma, Mother: Sarah Taylor b: abt. 1835 Bombay, India, somehow ended up in SA and at 15 years of age 23-9-1849 married Richard Sadler in Adelaide SA. They had one son William born 1850, and I think I have found 3 girls born 1853 and 1856 in Wollongong NSW. I cannot find the birth of Emma so maybe she wasn't registered!!!!!! Sarah with Samuel Benjamin Legge 1863 -1884 Samuel died 1884 buried Sandgate, Sarah then married Charles Sims 1886 she died 1895 and was buried with Samuel at Sandgate. Edith May was my ggrandmother, on all the certificates I have she was brought up as a Hawkins, on the other birth certificates of the siblings they changed the date of their marriage to 1878? Edwin John Hawkins b: 1885 I think he was married twice 1911 at Wickham to Jane M Paton, then in 1917 to Beatrice Henderson at Hornsby.BDM records. He was living at 66 Ridge St, Merewether in 1925 (father's death cert.) and at 112 Ridge St, Merewether in 1952 when he died.(CD from Newcastle Library). I also have William Hawkins married 3 times Florence E Harvey 1911, Ilma J Davidson 1919 at Hamilton and Elizabeth James 1939 at Wickham, he had 8 children. I hope this helps you Lesley

    3. Hi, My name is Peter O'Brien and I have recently began investigating my family tree. On my Father's side I have found links to the Hawkesbury area. My GG Grandfather is Joseph FAIRS who emmigrated from England and settled in the Cattai Creek area where his death cert reports him dying in 1868. He married Ellen DONAHOE (various spellings) in about 1843. One offspring was Mary Anne FAIRS who was born about 1845 and who married John Joseph O'Brien on 20 Jan 1865. I have found the graves of Joseph FAIRS and Helen (Ellen) FAIRS, son Richard and son Joseph and wife Jane at the Roman Catholic cemetery at Windsor. The headstones do not look original to me (not weathered enough?)...and Joseph snr's age is shown as 52 on the headstone whereas his death cert is 62...maybe a transcription error to a new headstone? If this is true, then who replaced them? Joseph's and Ellen are identical and she died in 1896 so maybe it was done then by the family. In reviewing the archives I found that Ellen FAIRS was listed in the Post Office Directory as a farmer at Caddie along with their son Joseph. Also, the road down to Riverside Oaks golf course is O'Briens Rd and I wonder if this was a track leading to the O'Brien farm. I would be interested in any info that members can supply to help my in my research. I am particularly interested in finding where the Fairs and the O'Briens may have had some property in order to understand the circumstances in how they met and married. I would also like to follow the O'Brien line back. All I have is John Joseph's fathers name as John and his mothers is Mary A. The only lead I have on the Fairs is that Joseph's mother's maiden name was Brantford (and the spelling/name is questionable). Thanks Peter O'Brien
