Could we have some information re the ending and the beginnings of the Old Hawkesbury Hospital. I would be very interested. Joan Hillman.
Dear Gail, If the certificate is of no use to you perhaps you could consider donating it to the Society of Australian Genealogists 120 Kent Street SYDNEY for their Primary Records Collection and that way it will be available to many people under an indexed listing. Sincerely,Bill > Hello List, > > I recently purchased a death cert. for an Owen WARD but don't there this > one is connected to my line so am putting the details here in case someone > wants it.

Hi Lorrae, I found a few references to some HAYES in the Gaztte. Not sure if they're yours, but just in case. Sorry I've taken so long to reply. Cheers, Maureen Windsor & Richmond Gazette, Saturday, March 24, 1900, page 9 Local Land Court - Homestead Selections At the last sitting of the Local Land Board the following cases were dealt with:- George HAYES, 60 ac. 1 rd. 20 per. confirmed Caleb Donald HAYES, 45½ ac. confirmed Windsor & Richmond Gazette, Saturday, March 31, 1900, page 11 WILBERFORCE An afternoon's horse racing took place in Hall's paddock on Saturday. The attendance was not large, and there were very few gee-gees present. No doubt the parade of the Lancers at Clarenden had something to do with this. The first event was a race for a bridle, which was easily won by Robinson's Wombo, with R. Reynold's mount 2nd, and H. Simpson's grey 3rd. Alf Robinson rode the favourite, a brown moke, and could have won had all the other horses fallen, providing he got past the post before any of them got on their pins again. The second race was won by Mr. D. HAYES' Gipsy. Mr. R. Eggleston's Jack, second, and Mr. Cross' Miss Trick 3rd. A match between Jack and Miss Trick was won by the former, ridden by Charlie Norris. A "bob" sweep, in which there were seven or eight starters, was pulled off by G. Greentree's Tormenter. > >
Hi, I am looking for information regarding my GGG grandfather, who was a convict by the name of James Rance. He arrived on the Camden and was assigned to the Aberdeen area. Can you help? Regards, Denise
Hawkesbury Advocate, Friday, March 16, 1900 (page 5) MARSDEN PARK. (From our own Correspondent.) Owing to the annual tea-meeting in Riverstone, the Rev. H. Piggott has not been able to pay his monthly visit for divine worship there. Mr. Walker, of the Glebe, preached in the local Presbyterian Church last Sunday evening. This gentleman has already visited us before, and his visits are always looked forward to with pleasure. Mr. George Bere has been afflicted for the past few weeks with a large abscess on the thigh, and it attained such enormous dimensions that medical aid was necessary, and Dr. Studdy's services obtained. I am pleased to state that under that gentleman's skilful treatment he is now about again. Miss Jones, the popular head mistress at the local public school, has received an appointment to the Five Dock Superior Public School. Whilst regretting her removal we are pleased to think that the new appointment is a promotion for her, and that her position in the new school is near her parent's residence. The Marsden Park Sunday School is now without a teacher, owing to Miss Jones's removal. We trust the members of the above church will not let it fall through, as the late teacher was accomplishing such good results amongst the young children.

Whist recently undertaking research into the history of Hawkesbury newspapers for a journal article, I came across some information from the "Windsor Review" a 19th century magazine which may interest to listers. Although classed as a newspaper it was more like a journal or magazine, the "Windsor Review : a monthly magazine of literature, science & art" was established in July 1857. The editor was Mr J. Kennedy, a schoolteacher and it was run in conjunction with the local Debating Society. Unfortunately only four issues were ever produced and it folded in October 1857. You may be ineterested in localting whether your ancestor subscribed to some additional culture and expanding his or hers mind!!! Hawkesbury Advocate, Friday, March 16, 1900 (page 4) HAWKESBURY D. A. ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Council was held on the Show ground on Wednesday afternoon, 14th instant. Present : Colonel Holborow (in the chair) and 17 members. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts from Hawkesbury Advocate for printing, and Mellish and Son for painting poultry shed were ordered to be paid. It was resolved to ask the Premier, the Hon. W. J. Lyne to open the Shoe on the 11th May, and failing to secure that gentlemen's presence the Hon. John See be invited. In the event of neither gentlemen not being able to accept the invitation, the Show not to be officially opened this year. The offer of Mr. James Hull to give a horse collar, or cash to the value of 25s, for the best collared gelding or mare at the coming Show was accepted with thanks, the prize to take the place of first prize in Class 42. It was also resolved to provide space for a non-competitive exhibit of harness by Mr. James Hull. Mr. Conlan offered a prize of one guinea for the best exhibit of maize, the most profitable to the farmer. It was resolved to purchase two turnstiles to complete the registers lately purchased for use at the coming Show. Mr. Terry promised two guineas for the best buckjumper rider at coming Show. It was decided, in response to the request of local cyclists, that if inducement offers, the Council will conduct a bicycle contest on the Show ground at next Show. It was resolved not to add a class for black colonial game fowls at coming Show, it being contended that the breed was dying out. Also that Mr. Geo. Davis be appointed an extra steward for poultry, and D. Carter as feeder and caretaker. It was also resolved that a competent person be employed to assist the Stewards in warning exhibiters re parading of stock, this Official to wear a distinctive dress. Also to invite tenders for a band. Also that in future no alteration of programme be made unless notified on the blackboard by the Secretary. The Committee's luncheon-room was then sold by Messrs. Guest and Skuthorp, the purchaser being Mr. P. Beveridge for £15. Improvements. The covered space at rear of Derby Stand has been converted into a large open shed for vehicles. The three buildings further north have been enlarged, enclosed with iron, fitted with very spacious tables, and will in future be used solely for farm produce. The work is being done by Mr. A. Johnston, and met with general approval, the one fear expressed being that even now it is doubtful if there will be sufficient space for farm produce.

You need to have the parish name correct as that cuts down the search time. Sometimes the properties are a clue if the name is the same as the parish. We found that following a river, if you know the name of the closest river or creek helped enormously. Thanks to everyone for very helpful websites and information about Lapstone area. Barbara
Hi Rog, You can access through: www.lands.nsw.gov.au We had great success with finding our relatives properties but it does take a lot of patience and quite a few hours to search the maps. You need to have the parish name correct as that cuts down the search time. Sometimes the properties are a clue if the name is the same as the parish. We found that following a river, if you know the name of the closest river or creek helped enormously.
