Dear Stephanie, I found your email interesting as I descend from Richard Francis per Larkins who married Sarah Chapman 1 Dec 1818. General Muster List of New South Wales 1823, 1824, 1825 21440 Richard Francis Ticket of Leave Larkins 1817 14 Labourer Sydney William 8, Sarah 6, Eliza 5, John 3 were recorded as the children of Robert Francis. 15462 Chapman, Sarah FS Nile 1801 7 Housekeeper Sydney It may explain why I have not been able to find a death registered for him. Hi Stephanie I transcribed the applications to marry so you will find this application was denied on the 20 September 1843, when checking the fiche. At this stage James Taylor was free after having been convicted at Middlesex in 1834 and arriving the same year and given a 7 year sentence. Her TL was altered to Windsor in 1844, there is a note on the 42/2681 document re this, apparently she also lodged a petition but I have not been able to find this as it seems that it has not survived. In 1847 she obtained a PP to travel between Windsor and Mudgee #47/566 there is a note on this also which says that she was to accompany her husband in his service of R Fitzgerald: it does not name her husband. Can you give me any further information on James Taylor per Roslin Castle, was he from Lincolnshire? Also where did you find the application to marry? So that I can check this myself, I have done a lot of research on this woman trying to ascertain wether or not she is my ancestor Mary Hanley/Hanly. I am trying to find a marriage between her and a man Richard Francis per Larkins 1817 who interestingly was tried and convicted in Lincs.with an accomplice James Taylor [Little Jemmie]. Later R Francis was tried and convicted of perjury in Windsor in 1834; he escaped from Windsor jail and disappeared from his life, marriage, family and all. I am trying to ascertain if he is also my ancestor: R Francis and M Hanley are the parents of my G.G.Grandma Julia Francis born 1845 and baptised somewhere out near Dabee in 1848. Hello Michelle I agree with Jan Koperberg. I have found quite a few juicy titbits thanks to you. What do you know about Sarah Hand as she has had quite a past with my Percy Reynolds, not a lot of love lost between them. She accused Percy of killing a cow and dumping it in a swamp. She claimed she could see him from almost half a mile at midnight in the middle of winter. I wish I had her eyesight. Bowman was on horseback and Everingham in a spring cart, it was dark when the collision took place when the horse Bowman was riding was killed and Everingham thrown out of his cart and seriously injured on the left side, but I am pleased to state that under the treatment of Dr McPhee, Everingham is progressing most favourably. Another accident occurred on Tuesday night last to Dr Fiaschi when returning home from Richmond in his buggy, coming down Roberts Hill the horse bolted and when near the bridge, the occupants were thrown out and coming into contact with some railings the buggy was capsized, the horse then commenced to kick and plunge until he extricated himself, leaving the vehicle a total wreck, and finding himself loose and at liberty galloped homewards and being dark, ran into an omnibus proceeding to the railway station, the property of Mrs. Doyle, injured one of the horses, and smashed the fore part of the bus, but, luckily, no other damage occurred. There has been other accidents in Windsor this week, but of not much importance." Fire"A fire occurred on Thursday morning about 2 o'clock, on the premises of Mr. F. Simon situate in Macquarie Street, Windsor. A shed containing a quantity of hay, a saddle, bridle, and other property, belonging to Mr. Simon and valued about 30 pounds was consumed, and but for the energy of the townspeople, there would have been a great fire, as there are any amount of wooden buildings on the premises, and other cottages adjoining, which are all uninsured. The fire engine and brigade were in attendance, but done little good, as the fire was nearly extinguished on their arrival." Court reports"Henry Abbott and Arthur Halford were charged by the police with stealing property from Caroline Slaney, and sentenced to three days in Windsor Gaol, they have been locked up four days previously. Robert Gardiner charged with being drunk in George Street [Windsor] pleaded guilty. Fined 2s & 6d. Fine paid. John Daniells of Riverstone was charged by Susannah Parsons with assault on the 1st April. Fined 2s 6d and 6s 6d costs or seven days gaol. Fine paid. Sarah Hand on remand, was charged with stealing a brown horse the property of Henry Buttsworth of Buttsworth Swamp; also with stealing a saddle and bridle, the property of the same person. She was committed to take her trial at the next Court of Quarter Sessions to be holden at Windsor on Tuesday the 6th May next. Henry Buttsworth of Wilberforce was charged with cruelly using a horse, pleaded guilty and was fined 10s and 8s costs of court, or 7 days. Fine paid. Another case against the defendant for swearing was postponed for 7 days. Albert Brewer and Daniel Shepherd were charged by the police with riotous conduct on the Wilberforce Road on the 6th April, pleaded guilty. Fined 5s each, with 7s 8d costs or 7 day gaol. Fine paid."
