    3. Hello Ray, Thanks for the info, I will certainly follow through with some of your suggestions. I do know where John and Margaret Boyd were born, and where they married in Scotland, but have not as yet tried to trace their parents. 3. Dear Margaret and Ray, If you try www.records.nsw.gov.au which is the site for State Records and do a name check in the alphabetical section you may well come up with a match. The ARK, like everything else it seems, now has a new name, whiich I can't think of an my printed document from 2003 calls it the Archives Resources Kit. It is held by several big libraries around the State, and interstate. Scotland might be stretching it a bit far though. There is an Archives in Brief on most subjects, about 130 of them, and shipping is one of the first. Ship or Shipping, maybe passengers in the index should refer you to them. The records will give you two reel numbers, firstly the shipping list, and secondly the immigration list. In the main, if supplied and recorded correctly, the second one will give a lot of family details, parents etc, and whether alive, relatives in the colony etc. Another resource is the Australasian Genealogical Computer Index which is produced by the Society of Australian Genealogists and an index of anything that has come across the desk in 19 different societies in Australia and New Zealand. 3. Hello Margaret. As you don't give a place in Scotland, I assume that you don't know it. I'd expect that the (usually) TWO separate passenger lists for that ship's arrival in oz would give the places of their origins more precisely. I'd also suggest searching in the Immigration Deposit Journal INDEXES issued by Pastkeys on microfiche -- held in many oz public libraries; which then direct you to the relevant Deposit Journals themselves -- also held by many oz public libraries as part of the NSW ARK from NSW State Records. That may indicate other relations in the colony etc. For Scotland, I'd suggest googling for Scots Origins, and using their free search facilities linked in with the IGI on the Mormon/LDS site (familysearch.org) If you search there under each child's name, also providing the parents' names, you should hopefully zero-in on the correct family and its location. When you are fairly certain that you have the right family; then look at the bottom of the RESULT of the search, to find the BATCH NUMBER for the relevant birth/christening entry. It will be preceded by a C. (e.g. C114477, C113977, C119682, C119311, C119587 -- I am guessing from my own preliminary search that ONE of the above might be relevant to your searches). THEN you can do an ADVANCED search of the IGI on familysearch.org, using merely the surname of BOYD and the relevant Batch Number, and you might find more than you hoped for. Good luck. Ray. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Margaret Dunn" <gmdunn45@optusnet.com.au> > I am a new subscriber and am researching the Boyd family. 3. Dear Betty, No sorry, I don't know of a Samuel Boyd amongst my Boyds. I haven't been researching for very long and haven't as yet traced my John Boyd back to Scotland. I don't know why he would have gone to Newcastle in 1855 - perhaps he already had some family member there - maybe even Samuel Boyd Snr. I still have a long way to go!!! 3. Dear Roslyn, Thanks for the quick response. I don't think our "Boyds" are immediately connected. My great grandfather Albert Fullerton Boyd married Elizabeth Ann Price in Newcastle 1893 and they lived at Catherine Hill Bay (near Newcastle). I know there were some "Bridge's" living there also, but do not know if there is any connection.
