Hello Kay, I see that you are seeking information on Elizabeth MURRAY who lived in the Killcare Extension area. The actual location of her 50 acre grant of 1836 was on the shore of Riley's Bay facing Booker Bay and not far from The Rip. Elizabeth Owens was the wife of convict JOHN MURRAY who arrived at Port Jackson on 16 December 1823 per "Isabella" with a Life sentence. They married in 1834. John Murray died in 1847 and Elizabeth then married Daniel Benison (Benson) on 16 February 1849 at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church at Kincumber South. Daniel was a local ship master. The Murray children were Michael, Catherine, Mary, Elizabeth, John and Patrick. Elizabeth had two sons to Daniel - Robert and Henry Benson, both of whom followed in their father's line of work and became ship masters. Elizabeth Benson died on 11 March 1855. Daniel "Bennison" died on 16 December 1861 and was buried on the Murray farm the following day. The undertaker was shipbuilder Thomas Davis. Daughters of John and Elizabeth Murray married into the Hardy, Maxfield, Gullofsen, Gaffney and Coulter families. Son Patrick Murray b. 1848 married Sarah Ellen Coulter, a daughter of Samuel and Rachel Coulter of Woy Woy. Regards, Gwen [author of "The Shipbuilders of Brisbane Water, NSW"]
