    1. JAMES COCKCROFT

    3. Hello Wendy, A little more on the Cockcroft family for you: In 1874 John Cockcroft's son James who was a master mariner, became partner with James Frederick Beattie, mariner (both of Gosford) in ownership of the newly built, fore-and-aft schooner AGNES, built at Brisbane Water by Edward G. Beattie at what is now Daleys Point. The shipping register shows that James died intestate in April 1875 - Letters of Administration to John Cockcroft of Sydney, timber merchant. For those interested in our district's maritime history, this vessel's description and following ownership can be found in my book "The Shipbuilders of Brisbane Water, NSW" which covers all known shipbuilders around the shores of the estuary and at Terrigal (Thomas Davis), and includes details of 500 recorded vessels. This local history book is available direct from me. AGNES had a female bust figurehead. Regards, Gwen
