Hello MargaretB, thank you very much for the reference to Alfred Glennie's Central Coast diaries, and Swancott's books. I have seen the Hunter Valley one on the web, thank you. I'll try my luck with a couple of inter-libary loan requests through my local library. Your help is very much appreciated, Regards Wendy McKenzie ----- Original Message ----- From: "MargaretB" <mbergies@kooee.com.au> To: "ian" <iandwmckenzie@optusnet.com.au>; <AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-COAST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 16, 2006 9:05 PM Subject: Re: [ANCC] Rev. Re Swancott's books- just a word of warning- to double check stuff in it. While (I think) he was one of the first, if not the first to document Central Coast history- his stuff is not referenced and can be wrong. I know because in one case where my ancestors are mentioned, he had the information interposed between 2 people - i.e. information correct but for the wrong person!! And I love Rev Glennie's books- which I am lucky to own- he paints such a picture of what life was for him then and you have to admire his dedication to 'the cause'!! Riding miles and miles through lonely rough tracks on a pretty poor quality horse. Despite our huge population growth since then, many of the areas he describes are not 'that' much changed Judy Gifford researching ROGERS CAIN SMITH, mainly of East Gosford
Thanks Judy, I will be careful to double check any information, if I am lucky enough to be able to borrow some of these references through Inter Library Loan. I have read a lot of the Rev. Glennie's diaries for the period he was in the Hunter Valley [available on the web] and I like to imagine what the places looked like back then. I have been to some of the places mentioned and they are still open country. Branxton is on a very busy road now but one doesn't need much imagination to 'see' these places through Rev. Glennie's eyes.
