Hello again Wendy, The surnames given as neighbours of Creighton at Maidens Brush may not necessarily have been his contemporaries. Among the well-known surnames given is that of Corocher - a family about whom a whole book could be written! They were Italians who ended up in employment at "Cooranbean", the Fagan farm and orchard at West Gosford (now Kendall Cottage Museum) after surviving the disaster of the Marquis de Rey's attempted settlement at Port Breton in New Guinea, when many had died of fever. The family had voyaged with de Rey's "expedition" from their home in Italy in 1880. The then Premier of NSW, Sir Henry Parkes, offered the distressed survivors the choice of a passage back home or permission to come to NSW in 1881 (many of the Italians settled at "Little Italy" on the Richmond River NSW). The Fagan brothers were good people known for helping people down on their luck. Later on, the Fagans sold some land at "Maiden Brush" to the Corochers who called their farm "Costabella" and it was not disposed of until 1914. It was described in the 1923 obituary of their only daughter, Mrs Julia (Dean) Boyd as being at "Wingello". Cheers in history! wow, Gwen ... that is fascinating! I had noticed that some of the landowners were later than my William Creighton, which means that when he lived there it was probably very isolated. What a marvelous history the Central Coast has! I am so glad I have connections to it! Now that I know that my William Creighton had land there I feel a much closer connection Wendy ----- Original Message ----- From: "G Dundon" <gdundon@bigpond.net.au> To: <AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-COAST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, January 13, 2006 11:04 AM Subject: [ANCC] Maidens Brush Road - Land owners > Hello again Wendy, > > The surnames given as neighbours of Creighton at Maidens Brush may not > necessarily have been his contemporaries. > > Among the well-known surnames given is that of Corocher - a family about > whom a whole book could be written!
