Hi, I would like to take a moment and introduce myself to the members of this list. My name is Kay Vinson, nee CARDEN, and I am researching my ancestors who were early settlers in the Gosford district. I am a descendent of THOMAS COLLINS and MARIA JANE JONES m 1877 at the Christ Church in Gosford. My line comes through their child ELLEN HANNAH COLLINS who married ARTHUR VICTOR CARDEN in 1897 at Kangy Angy. I am very interested in any information about THOMAS COLLINS, MARIA JANE JONES, also her father, Ebenezer JONES a sawyer in the Gosford region who died in 1866 and was buried at the Cof E section of the KINCUMBER cemetery, Ebenezer's wife, ELLEN CHALLICE, or ARTHUR VICTOR CARDEN. I am very happy to share information that I have on the research that I have done. I am looking forward to participating in this group and learning more about my heritage. About me: I am married to Terry (31 years) and we have 6 children and 6 grandchildren. We live in Kenthurst in Sydney and are both involved in Family History.
Welcome to the list Kay you will find a very helpful and friendly lot, who are really knowledgable about the Central Coast history. I hope you find some family connections. I have been very fortunate since joining and have added considerably to what I knew! Best wishes Wendy McKenzie >
Hello Kay, Re the death of EBENEZER JONES of Kincumber, who died on 28 September 1866 aged 66, a sawyer: The following appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald issue of 12 March 1867: "In September last an old man named JONES, a sawyer, was killed at Kincumber by a log rolling over him. The bones of his head, across from the forehead to the back, were completely fractured and driven into the brain. Death must have been instantaneous". They believed in giving all the gory details back then, didn't they? A marriage certificate for RICHARD BARTLETT, widower, sawyer, shows that he married on 16 July 1867 at Christ Church, East Gosford, ELLEN JONES, widow of EBENEZER JONES. Both bride and bridegroom gave Erina as their place of residence. Richard died in 1906 aged 92 or a bit younger, while living at Wyoming. The Edmund Blacket-designed Christ Church at East Gosford was removed in the early 1900s to the main street of Gosford (south end of Mann St) and was restored last year. The stone church stands adjacent to the modern Christ Church opp Gosford Park.
