Hello Listers, I was saddened to see Ken Scully's death notice in the "Central Coast Express Advocate" of Wednesday, 31 August. Ken was a journalist on the "Gosford Star" newspaper when I came to know him many years ago. He was a former editor of "The Catholic Weekly" in Sydney (in fact, editor of two newspapers and three magazines at various times). Using the pen-name John Dawes, he wrote about events in the islands north of Australia during his army service there in World War Two. He was the author or editor of more than 13 books, and had won poetry prizes, including three for verse plays. In the early 1990s, as John Dawes, Ken compiled the histories of Holy Cross Catholic Church at South Kincumber ("Towards the Future") and St Paul's Anglican Church at Kincumber ("Round About St Paul's"), much of the material having been researched and gathered by committees formed for the purpose. He was a stalwart of the St Vincent de Paul Society, and the Coast Shelter Gosford, of which he was Patron. Kenrick Scully, Knight of the Order of St Sylvester, died at his Bensville home on 28.8.2005. A requiem mass was celebrated at Holy Cross Church on Thursday, September 1. I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to his widow Norma and family. Vale, Ken. Gwen Dundon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hi Gwen, Sorry to hear of Ken's death and although I did not know him personally, I had known of his association with the media. Where can I find a copy of the history the South Kincumber Church ? This bought back memories as a child when I attended the Kincumber school. I first started school aged 4 at Empire Bay in a single class room with about 12 other students and teacher Mr JONES, my parents then transferred us to Kincumber Catholic School with Priest being FATHER CROCK, even though I was so young I still remember the school as it housed many orphans and I often wondered what happened to them, if they found families to live with etc. I then went to St Joseph's East Gosford, but we still attened Kincumber Church for many years. I would love to read this history if still available.
