Dear John, I had a quick look at the Historical Records of Australia, Series 3, Vol 4 at the library while there this morning re the Robley I remembered vaguely as being mentioned. Just to satisfy myself about the name! On p.784, there is a list of settlers and land holders of Hobart Town who were signatories in an enclosure to an address to Mr R.W. Loane by Sorrell, dated 4.7.1818. Among them: George Robley and John Robley. On p.851, there are details of matters relating to the claim of John Robley and J. Mitchell for some land in Hobart Town. The date was 24.3.1819. Not your family apparently, but I thought these references said something about a John Robley in the military - WRONG!
