Marg, Glad to see you stirring us into action! as promised, I finally looked through the various certificates I have for my ROGERS/SMITH/CAIN families who in the main lived at E Gosford. There were a surprising variety of names; eg WN CAIN d. 18.7.1893 - attendant was GLL Lawson John SMITH d 11.2.1892 - FJ Kendrick; his wife Elizabeth who d. 2.7.1899 was attended by Sidney Fielder (registered surgeon). Their daughter in law, Margaret SMITH (My gtgrandmother) d. 7.71901 and was attended by Ernest A Lavery. I have the birth certificate of her daughter, also Margaret (my grandmother)- there was no doctor mentioned but the witness was Mrs Pateman, who was a well known midwife of the time. Dr Fielder also provided the medical attention for William ROGERS who died at E Gosford 25.7.1906. On his deceased estate papers, Dr Fielder was owed 3 pounds, 16 shillings. I found a cutting given to me by Gwen Dundon concerning my SMITHs. It was from the Town and Country Journal 29.4. 1876. There was a reference to an accident and 2 injured boys were "attended by Dr Harris, whose presence is certainly a great benefit to the district of Brisbane Water." So in a period of 30 years in E Gosford there were at least 4 medical attendants- Harris, Lawson, Fielder and Lavery Judy Gifford (nee Rogers- connected to SMITHs and CAINs)
