Dear Marg Morters, You suggested that Listers might like to contribute to a list of doctors who have practised in the Central Coast area - Gosford and Wyong districts of NSW say, or farther afield? A scratch around in my files revealed some names which I am including here. The dates given are simply to put the doctor concerned in the district at least in that year. Sometimes the date represents the first year of practice where it is known, or the birth of a first child. In some instances it is simply the year the name was noted in my own researches. I will have to type up all the refs in what detail I have for a main listing. A number of the doctors listed briefly below came to Gosford to work temporarily with the noted Dr Sidney Fielder (father-in-law of Dr J.H. Paul of Gosford). Paul's Corner at the south end of Mann St Gosford is named after the latter. An obituary for Mrs Jessie Lang, nee Wyper, who died in 1931, six years after relinquishing her practice prior to her marrige to the Rev. J.W. Stewart Lang, who was at the time the Presbyterian Minister of the Gosford charge, states that she was the second doctor to practice in Woy Woy. In most cases but not all, I have only a very brief note about the person, but if anyone is interested please contact me. Haven't checked out my death certs yet. I believe the NSW Medical Board has directories for 1842 and 1860 only (or did in 1981) but I don't know if entries from them are available to the public. Maybe the State Library or Archives has copies.
