Hello everyone, I found a death on the NSWBDM that could be the one you are looking for. 1875 - [7116/1875] Lawrence McDonagh. Died Liverpool. Age 76yrs. Registered at Liverpool. This would make him born c1799 and c20 yrs. old when he arrived in 1819. If this is the right one, it would explain why his wife is not listed as a widow as she may have pre-deceased him [the same year]. I also found a death of a Bridget Grant in 1907. The parents were Thomas and Cecilia. This Bridget Grant died at Balmain South. Catherine McDonald, daughter of Lawrence and Cecilia, died in 1905 in Sydney. There are a few deaths of a Mary Doyle or Mary A. Doyle in the 1830's - 1840s. Often when a child was quite young, or an infant, the parents are not listed on the NSWBDM index on the web-site. I hope this helps, if only to eliminate some more possibilities, regards Wendy McKenzie ----- Original Message ----- From: "F. Hi Marg, colleen and list members thanks for the reply on the above, I believe he is the Lawrence McDonald who arrived on the Thyne in 1819 His wife died in 1875 in Sydney. Her death certificate gives no indication that she was a widow. Their daughter Bridget Grant was widowed in 1865 and from the sands directory she was working in Sydney as a laundress as was her sister Catherine McDonald. So am presuming the mother was also here as well. I think that this may be one mystery I may never solve regards Faye I
Here is the website address of the Oral History Association of Australia, New South Wales Inc. There are some excellent links. Rosemary Block - Curator of Oral History at the State Library, Sydney, and NSW President of the Oral History Assoc. of Australia - was one of the speakers at the RAHS's 34th Annual Hunter & Coastal History Convention hosted on Saturday March 4 by Wyong Museum & Historical Society Inc. at Wyong Council's convention rooms. The subject of her talk was "I Wish I'd Asked My Grandmother...." I think we would all be in agreement with that! Regards, Gwen

Hi, The following site has been brought to my attention and from what I know seems to be fairy new? It may be of interest to those researching convict ancestors or ancestors that were involved in legal cases one way or another in the UK. This is a project of the History department of the University of Hertford and can be found at http://www.oldbaileyonline.org This lists criminal proceedings at the Old Bailey from the 17th century onwards. You can search by surnames, keywords etc. and read the prisoners' and witnesses' words. Regards, Ted Bryant
Hello list Wish to make contact with anyone having a connection to ( Jim )James William CROSS born Cardiff Wales 1929 regards Nancy N.Z.
Hi Marg and List The 1841 census of NSW makes mention of Lawrence McDonald and wife Cecelia ( Waters)and three daughter living at Blue Gum Flat. the family is also mentioned on a web site about the Ourimbah/Blue Gum Flat area. One daughter Bridget married John Grant son of Thomas Grant and Ellen Jennings. The other daughter Catherine never married but I can find no mention of the eldest child or the death of Lawrence McDonald anywhere.I have the death certificate of his wife. She died in Sydney in 1875. No mention of her husband or any previous marriage, but it did state that she had nine children. The only other fact is that daughter Bridget was born at Jamberoo about 1836 and daughter Catherine was born about 1833 in Sydney Lawrence & Cecelia were married in Sydney in 1832. I believe the eldest child is the daughter born to Cecelia Waters in 1831,Baptised Mary Anne waters, and Mary Anne Doyle on the NSW BD&M indexes her father was Timothy Doyle and sponsors on her baptism record were Bridget Larkin and Patrick Connell. There is further mention on the Ourimbah web site, of the death of McDonald's daughter of a dreadful illness that swept the area, and McDonald was a saw mill engineer.I don't know if it relates to my family though. Any suggestions as to where to look for more information regards Faye

Hello, Would Kingswood Archives be the best starting point to look at lists of convicts assigned to various settlers in New South Wales. Any advice would be appreciated. PamC (nee COULTER) Blue Mtns, NSW. Australia
Marg Thank you for your reply. I know that John Joseph Rae had a farm , shown on 1921,1925 & 1928 electoral roll as Brayton( name of property?) Mt Penang. James Edward Rae lived at Spiers Rd Gosford 1925,& 1928, and during 1921-1922 was listed as living at York St Gosford. My grandmother, Emma Pennell Rae had 13 children, yet I have only found 12. Could be a missing child amongst your funerals? I am also looking for the death of the father of these 2 men, also a James Rae, who lived at Windermere in Victoria, but when his wife died in 1891, no more trace of him. I wonder if he followed his sons to NSW. Thank you again. Margaret
