Thank you for the photograph Marg. Good to look back 50 years. Shirley
I have come to the conclusion that DYER is not a very common name with researchers, and I have yet to find someone researching the line I am interested in. Samuel DYER born abt. 1834 Oxford, married 1864 in Geelong to Elizabeth Ann MILLER born about 1847 Geelong Their children were all born in Smythdale Annie Maria b 1865 Esther Elizabeth b 1867 died 1921 lived in Auburn NSW Samuel b 1869 Olivia Amelia Oldham b1871 died 1873. I am particularly interested in Esther Elizabeth and I have a lot of information on her 3 marriages around Wyong and her 6 children. Marriages; 1. Francis GRAY aka John MURPHY 2. Arthur MORRIS 3. Francis Bede NOLAN Naturally I would like to make contact with anyone researching this DYER family. Cheers Sally Flynn Caloundra

Hi list, I found this very old Wyong Real Estate book but it is not dated and would love to know what era it was published. I have listed below the names of early farmers listed in the book and hope someone may know, they were not selling their farms, they were just telling prospective land buyers how successful their farms were and of the growth of the Wyong Shire. There are also photos of these farmers. Mr J E Waters - 1st Prize at the Ag Show for growing maize - judge Alex Wilkinson J.P. Trevitt's Seedlings Mr Leopard built "Rose Cottage" Mr Strugess's Grape Farm Mr Barnes's Farm House "Garryowen" owned by Mr Phillips Mr Smith's lettuce patch and children picking strawberries Mr Ponton's Farm Mr Suggett's corn farm Mr Watson's famous orchards Van Stappen with white leghorns Lindsay's poultry farm - passionfruit and pumpkin patch Mr Smith's apple orchards Mr Deane - oranges and tomatoes Mr Mowbrey's cottage and farm Mr Steel's poultry farm There are also very early photos of subdivision maps of which none had been sold and the add reads like this: CAMPING BLOCKS - NO MUD, NO SHARKS, NO SAND FLIES, NO HIGH TIDE, THE RIVER IS ALWAYS THE SAME HEIGHT. PRICE 35 POUND, DEPOSIT ONE POUND, BALANCE 2/6- PER WEEK, PAYABLE TO SUIT YOURSELF. (wouldn't that be a nice way to pay off the mortgage ?) Regards Colleen

Hi List, Just moving house and found my treasure chest of nostalgia from Strathavon Guest House Wyong and with the current changes to employment and recent "Pub" discussions, thought this might interest some. 1912 - Miss MARTIN - House Keeper - 10/- a week + board 1930 - Miss McFADDEN - first hired aged 14 - cook/waitress/housemaid/laundress - 30/- a week 1940's + RILEY, DENNIS, SOYA, LANGFORD, SHERBERT, MCDONALD, BUTLER, SCHOFIELD, MITCHELL and many more, wages averaging about 2 to 3 pound a week, most employees resided on the property in staff quarters and were sometimes permitted to join guests for drinks, but not permitted to use the cement pool or other guest's facilities. (not while the boss was around anyway), all staff were to attend work in stiffly starched uniforms with hair neat and tidy and all meals were to be eaten at the kitchen table. (Staff were provided with all meals) A weeks holiday cost 3 pound 5 shillings and this included a DELUXE ROOM with HOT & COLD RUNNING WATER. Guests were warned that water from the tap was a bit discoloured, as it was town water, but if they preferred they could drink the usual tank water as it was safe. (water was actually supplied from a large well on the property) GUEST'S RULES: Septic Sewer - no disinfectants or other matter to be used as this will disrupt the service....(lol - wonder what was permitted to go in it then ?) Piano - Thumping will NOT be tolerated and the organ must NOT be uncovered. Horse Riding - 10/- an hour and ride at your own risk. That's it for now, I have not listed Christian names, but if anyone is interested in Ancestors who were past staff (1912 +) please email off list. Regards Colleen
Yes, you gave birth in Gosford Hospital and usually the next day you were transferred out to Wyoming. That is of course if there were no complications and you were both well. I was really looking forward to going out there, but had to stay at Gosford and watch all the others go. I think I was the problem, the baby was big and healthy enough. Hi Marg, Wyoming Hospital, a subsidiary of Gosford City Hospital, stood opposite Wyoming shopping centre, on the corner of Kinarra Avenue and the Pacific Hwy. Originally it was Wingello Private Nursing Home (named because it stood on the edge of Wingello Creek), and its address was 11 Pacific Highway. Built in the 1960s I think. The present medical centre replaced it. Much more of this from me and I will have to coin a slogan "Ask an oldie!" Regards, Gwen
