Dear CC FHS members When it was decided to have a trip down to the Land Titles Office this Thursday I hadnt realised that by then the Para Olympics would have started and the weather forecast is 'rain periods' on the day . Hello Frank, Well silly old me, fell for the old trick, should have known better and yes I thought it a sort of chain letter (which I detest) but then was trying to help in a small way to make some Paralympian's day, without knowing the facts about their different uniform and the Olympic Rings etc. Next time I'll just hit the delete button OK!! It was just that seeing so many Paralympians arriving in our country, at the International terminal last Tuesday, you sort of feel for them now that the big/main attraction has finished, and they have to wait another week for the excitement to commence all over again, hopefully. But it does look promising for support, and I hope they get 110%. I did apologise to Marg and the group for sending this letter, but do so again with my head hung low, I won't do it again, promise. Dear List. I have just read Dorothy's note and agree with the sentiments - but I have already said this to a correspondent in New Zealand, who sent me that same message a week ago. I don't know where it came from originally or where it has been since but despite the sincerity and the undoubted importance of it these lists are NOT the place for these messages. They are, as Dorothy says, CHAIN LETTERS. We oldies probably know more about them than you youngsters. No they aren't a new idea. But now you can flood the place with them, without even a stamp. Please consider what an embarrassment they might be to someone you write to who uses a work address. Many people just copy the entire address book and some people will receive these messages back from all over the place. This is not an original thought. The paralympians deserve our respect and our support equally as much as their able bodied counterparts. Indeed most of them have had to surmount far greater obstacles to reach the pinnacle of their sport than most of us will ever face. Just imagine that you had not only spent considerable time overcoming a physical or mental disability, but then years training so that you could compete in front of your home crowds. Then imagine you had witnessed the last two weeks of the Olympics and felt the huge generosity of spirit that overcame us all - you'd be so inspired at the thought of what lay ahead, wouldn't you? Then imagine that with a fortnight to go you saw the symbol that had burned brightly on the bridge torn down, the symbol for which you have been spending our soul in training every day, the symbol that is meant to overcome the barriers of race, religion, sex and disability. How would you feel? The wet weather that has spread across the city will mean that no more can be done until the heavens clear.
