Hi Roger , can you please advise how I join GENANZ, I don't know it. Main address is http://lists.rootsweb.com/ Select Australia then GENANZ. If you get it this way suggest only as a digest and can get pretty busy This is also gated as a newsgroup soc.genealogy.australia+nz which is how I take it also GENBRIT is gated as soc.genealogy.britain as is GENIRE ...soc.genealogy.ireland All 3 have alot of messages so its far better to take as a newsgroup . This way you down load just the message headers and then select the messages that catch your eye and then down load them . As a rootsweb list you take the lot bye Marg Morters NSW Central Coast Mailing List Gosford, NSW Australia [email protected]
Have had a look at the index to "Historical Records of the CC of NSW" for Robley. There are several refs for John Robley, Sr and Jr, but all seem to refer to a court case or hearing in Jan 1861, probably they were giving evidence (just my guess). Perhaps some kind Lister has time to check it out for you on the microfilmed records of the Bench Books and Court Cases at Gosford Library? Regards, Gwen

Hello Leith Many thanks for replying to my email. It would be great if you could have a look on your database and see what you could find. My great granddad was born in 1848 so I'm not sure that the Lydia Piper (b. 1873) you mention would have been the mother of my granddad - however, we must look at all trees/branches or whatever. I have been told that Lydia (Sarah) Piper and my G/Grandad Charles Henry (aka Henry Charles) were not married. It would be nice to find some family - what type of cousins are there Leith ??? the only ones I've heard of are "kissin cousins" !!! - haven't got any of those either !!! Regards PamC (nee Coulter) PS I did contact Dr. Graham Piper who wrote "The Minorca Pipers" - he doesn't think there is a connection although on page 97 of his book he speaks about a Sarah Rebecca Piper. He could not at the time he wrote the book find much information about her. -----Original Message----- From: Davis, Leith (FORESTRY) <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, November 07, 2000 12:00 PM Subject: RE: Introduction to help solve ' brick walls'
Pam The other Pipers were the ones of much more social significance who were based around Bathurst and aren't any relation. I'd be very surprised if your Lydia/Sarah isn't connected to the Minorca Pipers because of the geographical connection, and because Lydia and Sarah are both family names. I will have a look at what I have Leith -----Original Message----- From: pam clarke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, 7 November 2000 13:59 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Introduction to help solve ' brick walls' Hello Leith Many thanks for replying to my email. Hi Pam My great great grandmother was Lydia Piper, daughter of Jonathan Piper, but she married Edward Davis. I had a quick look on my database, there is another Lydia born 19 Oct 1873 to William Brisbane Piper (Jonathan's son). I don't have any marriage for her yet. She died 12 Sep 1957. There are a few Sarahs, but I don't have a Coulter. Then again I don't have all the marriages for the extended family yet. If you like I can go in to the database at lunchtime and get a list of the Sarahs that I have so far. regards leith davis ps: I guess we must be cousins of some kind anyway, even if we don't know yet what kind!! -----Original Message----- From: pam clarke [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, 6 November 2000 20:32 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Introduction to help solve ' brick walls' Hello one and all. Hello David, There are some Taaffe entries in my files, taken from the C of E birth and marriage entries. Probably you have them, but here goes: John Taaffe married Elizabeth Freeman (she signed with a cross) on 12.6.1849, witnesses were Mary Anne D(P or B ?)oole of Gosford and William Beavan of Wyong. Children born in the Gosford district to John and Elizabeth Taaffe: James b. 16.8.1850 at Cabbage Tree, father a labourer (James died 1924, Jan or Feb, at West Wallsend where he had lived for about 25 years. Buried there.) Mary Ann b. 2.3.1853 at Blue Gum Flat [Ourimbah], father a sawyer John b. 27.6.1855 at Erina, father a butcher Elizabeth b. 12.4.1857 at Erina, father a butcher Have you checked out Edward Stinson's books on the history of Wyong in six volumes for William Beavan, who was I think a bullock driver in the timber industry? He was born on 1 March, 1810, died after long suffering on 29 April 1887. His widow Isabella died 14 August 1904 aged 82 (details from their large headstone in a Wyong area cemetery .. I took the photo for one of Stinson's books). Also, have you checked "Historical Records of the Central Coast of New South Wales" - Bench Books and Court Cases: 1826-74 published by Gosford Local History Study Group? Copies at the Family History Group rooms I feel sure. Many entries in the index for both Freeman and Taaffe. Best wishes, Gwen Dundon
Good morning Brent Can't help you with your brickwalls but I can tell you that my early family settlers to the Brisbane Water/Woy Woy area have a small lane/street named after them. It is the Coulter Lane/street and is situated close to the Deepwater Plaza and KFC, Woy Woy. I was recently in the area checking out cemeteries etc etc. but ran out of time so I haven't yet walked Coulter Lane/street. Happy researching. PamC PS. My early family settlers were both convicts. -----Original Message----- From: Brent Richards <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Monday, November 06, 2000 11:45 PM Subject: general introduction
