Mary I just remembered that my sister-in-law is from Jaspers Brush and her family has a long association with Berry and the Methodist church - (their name is Thompson and they owned a dairy farm) I'll forward your email to her. By the way, I was doing some family research at lunchtime on a fairly remote twig (as you do!) My first cousin twice removed (thats what the database says), Bertha Daisy Court, married Norman Henry Rendall in the 1900s. I haven't followed up his family yet, but when I was looking in the deaths index, saw a couple of Rendalls from Nowra and Berry. Do you know of any Rendalls in Berry? I don't remember any. Bertha would have been from either the Central Coast or Sydney, Norman's parents were Henry and Sophia. Greetings to Each of you. I am trying to locate the address [snail mail and email] and phone numbers of the NANDEWARS HISTORICAL SOCIETY. I believe they are the publishers of Margaret Crowley's "Early Settlers in the Nandewars" and "More Early Settlers". I have tried to get these books/pamphlets by inter-library loan through my local library but have been unsuccessful. I am particularly interested in any information in them on the Jurd family to assist with my research and subsequent book on that family. I believe Nandewars area is around Inverell. Is this correct? All help appreciated. Could I also urge everyone to take notice of and act on the informatin regarding the saving of our census details when we complete our forms next August. Sincere thanks. After a good night's sleep which was needed after all the frantic activity of the Saturday, Sunday dawned a little brighter and slightly clearer skies than on Saturday. However, we had a brilliant venue and plenty of space for everyone so it didn't really matter what the weather did. Again we were there bright and early ready for the onslaught. Would it be as rushed as Saturday? Fortunately it wasn't. People came along at a more leisurely pace which meant we didn't have the long queues that we had on Saturday. Sunday's numbers gradually increased until we had about 250 over the course of the day. Some brave souls from Saturday returned for a time. Again the theme "MIX, MAG, & MINGLE" was taken on board whole heartedly. So all in all we had some 500-550 people through the doors over the two days. It was beyond my wildest dreams never having organised this type of function before. I've been told that I'm banned from choosing dates for reunions in the future as the two that I've organised have been wet and one was even on the weekend of the Rugvy League Grand Final day. Tut! Tut! - Well as I say, there's more to life than football!!! <wicked grins>. So all in all it was a brilliant weekend. Greetings to Each of you WOW!!! What a weekend! Firstly I would like to pay a special tribute to those who worked so hard to ensure the success of the weekend. For the last twelve months Lesley Uebel, Norma and Ian McLean, John and Ena Norris, and Allen Maunder have been in the forefront of the organisation of this reunion. Shirley Kelly too, took on the job of contacting two large family groups and sent out over 800 letters. To each of them I say again, A MOST SINCERE THANK YOU. It is because of your hard work that we had a brilliant weekend. The scheduled time to begin was 10.00am Saturday. The committee was there by 8.30 to open up and get set up for the weekend. We didn't have time to do that as by 8.45 there was a crowd stretching well along the verandah champing at the bit to get in and get started. The theme of the two days was "MIX, MAG & MINGLE" and that's exactly what everyone did. It was my pleasure to WELCOME every one to the event. I'm delighted that all had such a great time and many even came back on the Sunday. Saturday saw some 350 genies come through the hall. They just kept on coming. There was a never ending line or so it seemed. Records show that they came from far and near, from Rockhampton to Melbourne, from Western Australia to New Zealand. Yes there was someone from New Zealand present too. So you can see our advertising was successful. Saturday night saw some 120 people sit down to dinner at the Windsor RSL. The Bistro meal was delightful and the company just GREAT. It was wonderful to just sit and talk and spend time with each other in a relaxed atmosphere. I for one, like most of the committee, did not get a lot of opportunity to mix, mag and mingle over the course of the weekend, but I did make a lot of useful contacts. For those who are not aware of the history of this reunion it was born out of the clash last year of the Jurd and Sternbeck Reunions and so to avoid that it was suggested that we have a Macdonald Valley reunion. This then spread to encompass the Hawkesbury as well and I'm delighted it did. Thanks to Mrs Joan Drake of Windsor High School through whom we negotiated the use of the Hall. It was a brilliant venue - large enough to hold all who wanted to attend at any one time. The facilities were great - and it didn't matter what the weather chose to do. Thanks to EACH ONE who attended and helped by their presence to make the weekend so successful. As I mentioned it began as a Jurd Reunion and I am pleased to say many Jurds came along from Rockhampton to Canberra and all parts in between and beyond. As 2002 is the bicentenary of the arrival of Daniel Jurd in NSW courtesy of the British Government we launched to Headstone Restoration Project whereby the Headstones of Daniel who's buried at Pitt Town and Elizabeth, buried at Old St Alban's Cemetery will be restored and a bronze plaque placed at each grave to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Daniel's arrival. Each of their 9 children will be mentioned on the plaque. The project will cost approximately $1800. Those with connections to the Jurd Family are invited to make a contribution. The fund currently stands at $305.00 If 180 people donated $10 each we would have the funds necessary to proceed. If you wish to contribute please send your cheque or money order payable to Peter Stewart, Marist College Ashgrove, PO Box 82, Ashgrove, Qld 4060. A receipt will be forwarded to you by return mail. I am investigating how contributions can be made tax deductable. Once again my SPECIAL AND PERSONAL THANKS to Lesley, Norma, Ian, Allen, Ena, John and Shirley for their specific help. To all those who on the day assisted on the door or sent out notificationS to Newspapers, to various family groups, family history societies etc, my sincere THANKS TO YOU. I couldn't have done it without your help. What a fantastic weekend. I had a ball. However, I've been told I'm not allowed to choose the date for our next one as the last two dates I've chosen have been wet. [but it did not dampen our spirits.] A FINAL PLEA! PLEASE READ THE MESSAGE RE CENSUS 2001 and ACT UPON IT! With best wishes and thanks to all who came to make it successful. My husband's paternal grandmother's maiden name was Rosselloty. She came from Busselton, WA. In tracing this line back I discovered that for many generations the Rossellotys were married and baptised at a church "Threadneedle Street French Huguenot, London". The puzzle is that this name has come up on none of the Huguenot surname lists I have seen. Can anyone throw any light on this name for me please? Bartholomew Rosselloty appears frequently in the generations, and far back it was written "Barthelemy". Any help would be much appreciated. Gwen Dundon

Dear John Ross, Yes, you were right about that case involving the man Knight and your John Robley. I daresay it would have gone to a Sydney court from Brisbane Water thereon. In a similar case I tried to trace something through the Quarter Sessions (at which the action was to have been heard) and details from which were published in the SMH, but had no luck for some reason. Couldn't find the outcome although I searched through weeks of the paper's issues. Best wishes, Gwen
Hello Gwen, Many thanks for checking this for me. It sounds like the case mentioned on pp. 21-22 of Charles Swancott's "Blue Gum Flat to Budgewoi": "On 9/1/1861, before the Bench of Magistrates one George Knight was charged with stealing the sum of £43/1/- in money and other things, the property of a blind man named John Robley." It makes fascinating reading. Swancott ends the tale with "Knight was committed for trial", quoting the reference "Depositions 1855/72 pages 57/68." I wonder what the outcome was?
