Church of England records show that Henry James Wrench was born 6.6.1891 to Joel (?) and Harriet Wrench in the Gosford district (not necessarily Gosford township). I remember that a Wrench lived on the eastern side of the railway line at Ourimbah north of Gosford in the 1960s and 1970s. Gwen
Hi everyone, Once again I apologise for making this a blanket search but it is the only way that I can possibly cover all of the areas that I need. I have so far thanks to the kindness of the Australian people found out that Percy Spooner married Agnes Mooney in 1913. But there is also a Percy Spooner who married in 1935 a ANNIE SHARKEY. I know that the Percy who married Agnes is certainly the one I need but I am interested in knowing who the Percy was who married Annie Sharkey in 1935 all of this is in NSW Percy and Agnes had a daughter named Jessie who married a Joseph SIXSMITH in 1935. Is anyone researching this name, if so I would appreciate it if you would please contact me. My best wishes to you all June.
A good place could be Coramba Timbers 10klm west of Coffs Harbour..... my aunty worked there when she was alive...... they could probably put you onto someone maybe.... my dad grew up in the Murwillumbah area (Northern NSW) he was a timber cutter in his youth cutting hoop pine off the Pinnicle (Border Ranges National Park), lots of his family were. Greetings! I saw the message and was going to say that when I worked in the Kempsey District (PMG) we had a telephonist at Taree who came from Jones Island. But as I couldn't remember her name that wasn't a lot of help. Intended to look up the Geographical Names site and I have at last got round to that. It's at: Geographical Names Board of NSW http://www.lic.gov.au/gnb/search.htm But in the meantime, my neighbour Gwen Dundon, who is having computer trouble, called over with the following message: >From "A Geographical Dictionary or Gazetteer of the Australian Colonies" 1848 by William Henry Wells. "Jones. An island of NSW situated in the Manning River, in the County of Macquarie". >Hi Jenny >I used to live on Jones Island! >Leith > >-----Original Message----- >From: Jenny Blyth [mailto:[email protected]] > >Hello there > >Please can anybody tell me where Jones Island New South Wales might be > >thank you >[email protected] >_________________________________________________________________________ Frank Cardiff East Gosford NSW 2250 Australia
Hi everyone, I hope that you can forgive me for doing a blanket search, only I do not know which part of Australia PERCY SPOONER went to so I felt it best to try to cover as much ground as possible. My name is June Spooner and I am researching the name of the man above. Percy was born in approx., 1883-5 in Nottingham, England, He was born in the Edwin St., St. Ann's Well Road area and his parents were. George Spooner and Fanny Ward. Unfortunately, after leaving England for Australia, nothing much was ever heard from Percy and so contact was lost. If anyone has any information on him I would be most obliged if you would contact me. My best wishes to you all over there in the warm weather >From June in a very cold and snowy Ontario.
Hi Listers, I am attempting to find how BUFF POINT came by its name, and as a consequence find out if there is any connection with ancestors of mine, namely BUFF. The surname itself is not very common. Would appreciate any and all assistance. Regards to all, Wal Towells
Hullo out there, Trying to locate an old friend. Margaret Louise SUTHERLAND (dob between 1951-53) was a close friend who lived with her grandma and two brothers Anthony and David SUTHERLAND in Main Road Toukley. The house was called the GWIDIR and was on the Budgewoi lake frontage, not far from the bridge to Gorokan. The Gwidir I believe was a boat that went down somewhere? Scotland? Margaret's mum died of cancer when she was young and her dad, Donald??????Sutherland was killed crossing the street in Sydney (about 1962-63approx) when Marg was at school with me at Toukley. Would be grateful for any leads to Margaret or her brothers. Please contact me SHARON WINN (married name GRIFFITHS) on 08 91922225 ph or fax 08 91922234 fax or via this email address [email protected] or PO Box 1267 Broome WA 6725.
Wow Marg thanks for replying, re THOMAS WINN believed to be born near the Hawkesbury on 6/6 1896 and there is no birth records for that name. His WW1 record recorded him as HENRY JAMES WRENCH [Thomas Winn} Born 6/6/1891 in Gosford NSW. What does this doc say for name/s of next of kins ???????FRANCIS STEVENS (brother in law) My search found Francis Stevens married (in 1904), Dads sister Ethel May WRENCH (dob 1878). Last week I received all Dad's ww1 war records and it all points to the facts we know, and the stories Dad told us - so I figure he was born a WRENCH and changed his name to WINN sometime between 1919 and 1942 (probably while in UK) No-one yet knows why. Dad met and married Mum in UK returned to Oz in 1948 the migration records with my Mum and 2 elder siblings on the boat recorded him as NORMAN JAMES WINN. What about your parents marriage cert ??? Do you have a copy ?? NO - MUM HASNT A COPY AND DOESNT KNOW THE DATE (KNOWS THE CHURCH IN LONDON THOUGH) MUM IS 82 AND SO I'M TREADING SOFTLY, SOFTLY......BUT MUM IS FASCINATED ....HAS NO IDEA ABOUT THE WRENCH OR NORMAN WINN CONNECTION THOUGH. DAD WAS 28 YEARS OLDER THAN MUM AND RATHER SECRETIVE TOO. THEY SEPARATED WHEN I WAS 4, THOUGH WE ALWAYS HAD CONTACT. What does this say for names of your fathers parents ? FROM MY SEARCH THEY ARE JOEL AND HARRIET S WRENCH. A HARRIET WRENCH DIED IN 1895 (this accords with Dads story of being very young when his mother died) > > Dad lost his mother early on and was one of the youngest in a large family. MY SEARCH INDICATES Henry J Wrench's siblings to be 1) John J WRECH dob 1877 2) Ethel May dob 1878 3) Albert George dob 1880 4) Fredrick William dob 1883 5) Henry James (DAD) dob 1891 > He was brought up by his Dad hovever I think his dad died when he was in> early teens. Dad said he lived in a cave on the Hawkesbury River with his> father when things 'were really bad'. He told me his parents (my paternal> grandparents) were buried in unmarked graves at the Yarramalong Cemetry on a rise beside a Church I tried to find the Church 2 years ago - it was> gone! Apparently burnt down a few years ago. MUM THINKS THIS WAS NARARA CEMETRY, NOT YARRAMALONG. DID THAT BURN DOWN? IS THAT CEMETRY ON THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE OLD HIGHWAY BETWEEN GOSFORD AND WYONG ON A HILLSIDE (OR SLOPE)? Will check that out. Cemetery records shoud still exist . But first you need to know who youre looking for MARG, IS IT POSSIBLE TO ESTABLISH IF THERE WAS A BURIAL FOR DADS PARENTS OR HIS SIBLINGS? ID LIKE TO START WITH JOEL AND HARRIET S WRENCH WHO I BELIEVE ARE DADS PARENTS? AS DAD NOMINATED C OF E ON ALL HIS PAPERS I WOULD START WITH THAT ASSUMPTION, THOUGH DAD SAID THEY WERE IN UNMARKED GRAVES. MAYBE NARARA.....

Hi Jenny I used to live on Jones Island! It's north of Taree, part of the Manning delta - the Pacific Highway crosses it with a bridge each end. The village on Jones Island is Croki, used to be a thriving riverside town. One of my gggrandfathers, Joe Laurie, had businesses there (I didn't know that when I lived there) A friend of ours bought the little church at Croki and turned it into a wonderful house - that might have been the Church of Scotland. The Lauries probably had something to do with that, too. Dear Listers What do you know! Just received a list of URLs (which I send on to a few local contacts) and included was Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park http://www.esmp.nsw.gov.au/ This is a bit different from the old one. I tried it and got there OK and found a new entry for 2000 since I looked before. But here is a bit of good news. Dates were originally expressed in American form MM/DD/YY but they have now gone to our Aussie way of DD/MM/YY This could be a bit tricky if you had entries for 05/09 etc and only obvious when you got a month a bit bigger than 12. Worth another look if you had earlier entries. Frank Cardiff East Gosford NSW 2250 Australia
