Hi there, I am trying to establish the birth and family details of my g.g.grandmother, Elizabeth JOYCE (nee PURSS) born c.1854/5 in SOFALA, NSW. I've searched for her birth (incl variations) with no luck. Her 86 yr old grandson Martin JOYCE thinks (from research he did 30 years ago) that she is the daughter of William PURSS & Elizabeth Ann PURSS (nee CALFE). They are the only PURSS family I've found in NSW at the time, but Elizabeth is not among the 9 births reg'd to them. She is also not listed as 'previous issue' on other certs. Martin doesn't recall where or when Elizabeth died, & there are quite a few Elizabeth JOYCE'S in the death records. She married Patrick JOYCE, in Grenfell, 1875. They had 5 children, her maiden name was always spelt PURSS. Parents names not given on marriage cert, but she was "living with parents" in GRENFELL. (where William & Elizabeth Ann PURSS lived then). So, did she belong to this family at all? was she adopted, informally or otherwise? William & Elizabeth Ann PURSS retired to LEICHARDT, SYDNEY, and died 1899 & 1906. ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR HOW TO FIND THEIR DEATH NOTICES IN A SYDNEY PAPER? These may give relationships other than biological children. Apparantly William was on the "Ist Council of Grenfell", so would his death have been reported locally? ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PROCEED WARMLY RECEIVED!!! Cheers, Megan Peinell. (LONDON)
Maybe Emily Elizabeth ??? could she have used her second name instead of her first??
