Hello I was born in Orange, my husband in Dubbo, and we've lived in Parkes and Mudgee, so I guess that makes us central westies. Went back to an Orange High Reunion in April. Mysteriously about 8 women from the same class have ended up living between Wollongong and Nowra. I've been researching the goldfields areas around the 1860s, came across a wonderfully well researched book called The Glint of Gold, by Keren Cook including 1000 photos of then and now. At the moment trying to find more about a particular John Kelly my ggrandfather. The problem with my John Kelly is John's 1867 marriage certificate to Rachel Jacobs at Forbes shows his birthplace, age, father's name, mother's name and maiden surname and fathers occupation as 'not given'. By 1871, John changed his name to John Edwin Kelly when he registered his children's births, but he was buried as John Edward Kelly. After checking the birth certificates of his children to work out his DOB there appears to be no John Kelly born that year...ho hum the search continues. He was a stockman on Coobang Station and had stores in Warren and Mt Harris and hotels in Nevertire, Nyngan Parkes and Georges Plains, so I'm anticipating a trip to the archives at Penrith. My grandmothers side no problems, she is a Field descendent, so they are well researched on the web via Colin Field's amazing project 'From a Distant Field'. The Luckies (originally from Mendooran) also fairly well researched. I'm a bookaholic and building a collection of second hand 'historical' books. The other side of my family were Levingstones from German's Hill near Orange, through to Chandlers who owned the newsagency opposite the railway station there. Again trying to find out more about the history of the redcoats (HM 2nd Regiment of Foot) what they did around1859. Cheers Rae -- Everybody has a story-isn't it time you wrote yours?
