Thanks for your generous offer. I am interested in Myers and Coleman, both of whom I believe were involved with the local government quite early on. Any info appreciated. Hi Clare, "Lewis Myers Town Clerk 1883 Myers a JP was elected to the first Parkes Municipal Council and at the first meeting on may 11, 1883 was elected pro tem.He filled the position for four weeks doing the initial work until a full-time clerk was appointed. Myers was the first chairman of the Parkes Municipal Council's Works Committee. He also acted as Hospital Secretary and held positions in many public bodies. He was born at Yass in 1850 and was a tinsmith by trade. He visited most gold mining fields in the colony before settling in parkes where he was a cordial manufacturer and brewer for some years. In 1879 he returned to tinsmithing and ironmongering and established the largest business of this type at the time in Parkes." There is aphoto of him and his wife on Page 41. Mark Coleman Mayor 1884-5 Coleman was five years as alderman and Mayor for one term. He was born in England in 1835 and arrived at Bushman's in 1871 to enter mining. He later opened a cordial factory and finally started a fruit and confectionary business and also laid out a major orchard. He was a member of the hospital board, progress committee and public school board. Coleman lived in Windsor, Bathurst, and on the Forbes goldfields before coming to Bushman's. Hope this helps, Regards, Una ----- Original Message ----- From: "Clare Stapleton Concord" <conjola2137@charter.net> To: "Una and John Greco" <thegrecofamily@optusnet.com.au>; <> Sent: Friday, September 19, 2003 10:12 PM Subject: Re: [NSW-C] Parkes > Thanks for your generous offer.
