John - I missed your initial query or would have jumped in by now.... it's usually covered in the AUS-ORANGEBATHURST list... Much of my research is centred on Hill End-Tambaroora. Hill End is 85 kms NW of Bathurst & 75kms SW of Mudgee. It may also be reached from Orange via the "Wine Highway" which doesn't really exist yet - govt agencies don't find it important enough, but it would be a boon for wineries in the two areas, not to mention our little township, which exists largely due to tourism and gold mining history buffs. I've moved to Bathurst from Hill End for work and healthcare reasons, but visit weekly. I'm going away for a week or so in the next few days, but if you'd like me to follow up for you, I'd be pleased to do so. Am already looking at the ROBERTS, but don't know yet if it's yours. I have access to some of the BDM handwritten records, and will see what we have concerning your names.
