Helen, here are a couple of articles that may help you, from one of my current subject's "Grong Grong Station' in Grong Grong Heritage Series Regards Marg Coolamon-Ganmain Farmers Review Feb 3, 1933 Mr William GUEST Friends of Mr William Guest in this district were shocked to learn of his death in a private hospital in Sydney on Saturday last. Mr Guest was a frequent visitor to Coolamon, and kept in touch with friends here. Mr Guest was a native of the district, being the son of the late Mr and Mrs Guest of Bundijary Station. While manager of Grong Grong Station for the Guest Family, Mr Guest was one of the most prominent citizens in the South-West. Being born an organiser, he interested himself in nearly every local movement. He was one of the founders of the South West District Football Association and was President for some years. His great capacity as an organiser of sport was quickly recognised, and the firm foundation on which he placed the Football Association is in evidence today and is a monument to his work. The Association formed by him many years ago is today recognised as the most important in the country districts. Mr Guest did not confine his energies to sport, for the Narandera P & C Association has much to thank him for. He was a member of the committee for some years, and proved to be one of the most progressive of committee men. Here again he proved his ability as an organiser. Some years ago he gave a filip to competition at the Narandera Show by organising a North v South Competition. The success of the North v South competition prompted Mr Guest to seek larger fields, and about that time he and Mr Jack Moses discussed the possibility of holding a country week in Sydney. Mr Moses threw himself heart and soul into the proposal and assisted to organise in other districts throughout the State. Mr Guest, with a number of other local residents, saw that the exhibit from the Narandera district was worthy of this part of the State. From an advertising point of view the venture was a big success, but such ventures cannot be run for nothing, and the organisers and their supporters in the district contributed generously to defray the cost of taking the goods to Sydney and for organising expenses generally. Many other movements were also supported by Mr Guest. Several years ago Grong Grong Station was disposed of and Mr Guest was appointed an inspector by an insurance company. In that capacity he frequently visited Coolamon. Later he was appointed to a position in the Taxation Department in the Rural Districts and visited Narandera at regular intervals. As a citizen, Mr Guest was held in high esteem, his jovial open nature winning for him friends wherever he was known. Deceased was in Coolamon only a few weeks ago. He was a prominent Freemason, being an officer of the Grand Lodge, a P.M., of Lodge Leopold, a P G D I W ., and also a member of Leopold Royal Arch Chapter. He married Miss Marie Flood, daughter of Mrs and the late Mr Archibald Flood, formerly of Narandera, and now of Sydney. Mrs Guest passed away some years ago. Deceased is survived by a family of four sons and one daughter. The sons are Richard, Robert, George and Lester (Sydney), and the daughter Phyllis (Mrs W Anderson, of Sydney) His brothers are Messrs Percy and Norman (Sydney), Tom (Coolah) and his sisters Mrs Horace Stinson (Sydney), Mrs Davies (Bondi), and another unmarried sister (Maud) The funeral took place in Sydney on Monday Coolamon- Ganmain Farmers Review 6th Jan 1933 Grong Grong Station - Important Sale What is considered to be one of the most important land sales for some time has just been completed. “Grong Grong”, a property of over 21,000 acres and about seven miles from Narrandera, has been purchased by Mr A Vickery, of Sydney, at a figure which has not been disclosed, but is believed to run into six figures. Grong Grong was owned for several years by the late Michael Hogan and his partners, and previously was in the hands of the Guest family. It is regarded as one of the best of the Murrumbidgee frontage properties, as it includes 13,000 acres of excellent fattening country. The largest proportion of this of this is regarded as very suitable for lucerne-growing and dairying, and is situated between the Murrumbidgee River and the Bundijarie Creek. It has a frontage to both of these permanent streams and could be irrigated at a very small outlay. The balance of the holding is good grazing and wheat land and fronts the Junee—Narrandera railway line. For a number of years “Grong Grong” has been used for raising fat lambs and vealers and fattening cattle, and on several occasions fat stock from the property has topped the Sydney and Melbourne markets. ----- Original Message ----- From: <tellig@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 3:23 PM Subject: [NSW-C] FLOOD > Looking for more information & descendants of the FLOOD family who first > moved to the Districts of Narranderra & Wagga Wagga from Sydney c1850s > Helen >

From the Narandera Ensign Thursday, June 2, 1892 A rather painful and serious accident happened to a boy named Willie Flood, aged 9 years, a son of Mr. George Flood, of Waterview; the little fellow along with two of his brothers was engaged in playing a game of see-saw when the pole on which they were sitting gave way and a large bolt which was attached to the pole came out and falling on Willie broke his thigh. Dr. Westbrook was immediately in attendance and did all in his power to relieve the little sufferer, who is fast progressing favourably under the care of Drs. Westbrook and Mitchell ----- Original Message ----- From: <tellig@ozemail.com.au> To: <AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 31, 2002 3:23 PM Subject: [NSW-C] FLOOD > Looking for more information & descendants of the FLOOD family who first > moved to the Districts of Narranderra & Wagga Wagga from Sydney c1850s > Helen

Hi David I am researching the Flood family. I was told that a William Beddie married Matilda Flood. Matilda was born 1849 Ulong, Wagga Wagga. I could not find a record of their marriage. Matilda is a grandaughter of Joseph Flood & Ann Germaine both were convicts. I was hoping that someone in the Beddie line could tell me if she did marry a Beddie. Here's hoping! Hi Helen, Thanks for the note. I seem to remember that there was a Matilda Flood marrying into the Beddie family. I had a quick look through my records and did not see anything, however that doesn't mean it did not occur. I will chase up further and advise, hopefully, within a few days. If I dont have a record, I know of some others who would know.
