    1. [NSW-C] WWII enlistments
    2. Linda Barraclough
    3. I expect this will be news on every list, and while I do not generally encourage postings of websites to the list, this one is a beauty. The WWII Army, Navy and Airforce enlistments are now on line, and seem to search very quickly (but may not when everyone knows about it!) The beauty of this is that you can even put in a place and get all who were born there, who lived there when they enlisted and who enlisted there. One minor thing to get used to is that it returns different lists for, for example, Smithtown and Smithtown, NSW, and there are different lists for each of the three place categories. So you need to check them all. Very nice roll, as you get date of birth etc. Worth a check http://www.ww2roll.gov.au Cheers Linda

    1. [NSW-C] New Geneology Group In Australia
    2. My Family
    3. A new genealogy group for genealogy research is now available. It is available thru yahoo groups. The address of the group's home page is http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/Gene_Aus/ . You will need to join yahoo first, to then join this group. The group was started less that 1 month ago and currently has 61 members. 100 messages have been posted to the group in less then 1 month. There are over 39 surnames recorded in the groups surname database. A group like yahoo groups, or MSM groups, has some advantages over mailing lists like this one. The advantages are as follows: *There is a no-mail facility. You can read emails from the group online on the main group page so that your email inbox is not clogged up. From this same main page, you can access all the features of the group, which is something you can not do from emails that are downloaded into your inbox. Of course you can also get digest and single mode emails from the group, if you wish. One of the benefits of having a no-mail facility and reading the emails through the group's main page is that you do not spend time and money downloading emails that are not of interest to you, and the risk of receiving a computer virus is minimised. * Groups have a chat facility within them where members can chat with other online members. This saves emailing back and forward when you have made contact with someone. Just arrange to chat with them at a set time and its real-time. It is hoped that this group will also have regular set chat topics where members can contribute and gain information from others. Real-time ! * Databases can be created within the group's main page. This group has a surname database for surname interests, where members can permanently log their surname interests for others to see. This saves you having to periodically send emails with your surname interests just to 'catch' new members. Any member can add a database within the group. * Groups have a bookmarks facility, whereby members can add links to websites that they have found interesting. How many times do you see people sending emails to a ,ailing list saying ".....I have lost the link to Australian and New Zealand passengers list page when my computer crashed - Does any one know the link?....." When you lose your own personal bookmarks, or just can't remember then, you can access the groups ones. * Groups allow you to upload files and photos, so you could upload a copy of your gedcom file (or any file) if you wanted to, for others to download. On one list I subscribe to some person had transcribed parts of a BDM register and posted it to the list for all to use if they wanted. It was posted in sections over 3 weeks. This meant that for 3 weeks the list had huge emails to download and view. It also meant that the person who had supplied the information had to physically send the various sections each day for 3 weeks. By using the files facility within the group, she could have uploaded the entire file in one hit and sent one email to group advising them that is was there. Those that were interested could access the file. A much better solution all 'round, I feel. Regards, MF

Australian death certs usually have a great deal more info than English ones However they both left wills . William PURSS d 27 Jun 1899 will ref is # 18506 and Elizabeth 21 Nov 1906 , will ref # 38449 both Leichhardt The Probate indexes gives the date of death whereas the deaths indexes only state that year . For her death it says daughter of William and Eleanor ? May pay you to check out : http://users.bigpond.net.au/convicts The Claim a convict site and check out William CALF who arrived here per the ' Barwell' in 1798 as he has been claimed . Pretty sure he had a son, also William b 1801 . In the 1828 census there is record of Wm CALF born colony aged 27 living at Bathurst In 1833 William CALF m Eleanor HALLORAN at Bathurst . Pretty sure it was their dau Elizabeth who m William PURSS in 1852 at Sofala ( not far from Bathurst ) Bye Marg Morters Member of Central Coast Family History Society GOSFORD NSW Australia

    1. [NSW-C] Re: AUS-NSW-CENTRAL-D Digest V02 #57
    2. Thanks for replies to my puzzle over Elizabeth JOYCE, nee PURSS. bc 1854/55. It was tricky to keep it short but include the things I've already discounted. Yes, there was an Emily Emma born 1854 to the family in question, but I have details of her marriage, children, & early death (1880), - so she's not my Elizabeth. Wiliam & Elizabeth Ann also an "unnamed female" born in 1857, which my cousin had found 30 years ago, & assumed to be Elizabeth. But she was "Mary J", who died as an infant. There are a couple of theories I have - maybe Elizabeth was actually born to her aunt Rosalind, who became a widow soon after, & baby was taken in by family? That's why I think William & Eliz A's death notices may be the best shot at including unusual relationships. Cheers, Megan

    2. Hi Pat I don't have any information on Eurominda Station other than my 'JONES' ancestor worked there as a drayman in the mid 1840's with several of his children listed as being born there. They moved into Dubbo at a later date and of course I am still trying to trace them there. Maggi maggi14au@iinet.net.au Perth Western Australia see my Family Names at http://www.wags.org.au/mid/8134.htm I do not accept emails with attachments from anyone without prior knowledge . Hi All Have been searching for ancestors in the Dubbo area and wonder if anyone can tell me if the Overland Hotel at Mudgee is still there and if there is any way I might be able to trace the name of the innkeeper about 1873. Searching for gggrandfather WILLIAMS, daughter Elizabeth or Catherine Elizabeth. Also if anyone has knowledge of Euromedah Station, Macquarie River, via Dubbo which existed in 1873. I have ancestors who lived in Inverell and Armidale about 1870 and am wondering if this is in the area of AUS-NSW-CENTRAL or if there is a similar website to this for that area? Re: FARRELL. I also had difficulty tracing arrival of ancestors in Australia. While holidaying in Gerringong I visited the Heritage Library at Kiama and 'bingo first shot' with one lot, who arrived in 1841 under the Bounty Scheme. Don't know if they do research at the library for you, but the helpers, gentleman in charge and volunteers, were great and full of knowledge about where and what to search and produced necessary tapes etc. for me. There may be a Heritage Library in your area? Worth a check. If not may be worth a telephone call to Kiama to check on services etc. Hope this is of some help.
